Role Description

We are currently seeking a full-time Health & Safety Coordinator to join our team in Calgary.

This role is critical in ensuring that safety is not just a requirement but a core part of our culture and daily operations. The Health & Safety Coordinator will act as the first point of contact for all safety-related matters, working closely with site teams, project managers, project coordinators, and leadership to ensure compliance with all applicable regulations and BUILD IT standards.

You will play a key role in maintaining and strengthening our COR-certified safety program, supporting internal audits, and driving continuous improvement across all safety processes.

Key Responsibilities:

Safety Program Management:

Maintain and continuously improve the Health & Safety program, policies, and procedures
Support and maintain COR certification and internal audit processes

Audits & Compliance:

Conduct internal audits, site inspections, and safety reviews
Ensure compliance with all applicable safety legislation and company standards

Training & Orientation:

Schedule and deliver new hire Health & Safety orientations
Coordinate and deliver ongoing safety training programs

Site Support:

Conduct regular site visits and support Site Supervisors and Project Coordinators
Reinforce safe work practices and address safety concerns proactively

Documentation & Reporting:

Maintain safety records including inspections, hazard assessments, incidents, and training logs
Prepare reports, track safety metrics, and analyze incident data

Meetings & Committees:

Organize and support Joint Health & Safety Committee (JHSC) meetings
Record and distribute meeting minutes as required

Incident Management:

Assist with workplace incident investigations and reporting
Coordinate submissions through Workers Compensation Board systems

Continuous Improvement:

Identify opportunities to improve safety processes and systems
Support the development of safety training materials and programs

Qualifications:

25+ years of experience in a Health & Safety role within construction or a related industry
Auditor Training Program (ATP) Certificatepreferred
Strong knowledge of provincial health and safety legislation, regulations, and codes
Experience supporting or maintaining COR certification and internal audits
Familiarity with IHSA standards and safety best practices
Ability to develop and deliver safety training programs
Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage high volumes of documentation and data
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to work with site teams and leadership
Proficiency in Microsoft Office and safety management systems
Ability to conduct site visits and audits across active construction projects
A proactive, detail-oriented mindset with a commitment to continuous improvement
