The Canadian Medical Protective Association (CMPA) plays a critical role in supporting physicians and contributing to a high-quality healthcare system across the country. As a trusted partner to its members and a leader in medical liability protection, the CMPA assists Canadian physicians with medico-legal issues, enhances patient safety, and compensates patients harmed by negligent care. With a steadfast commitment to supporting its 115,000+ members in delivering safe and effective medical care in a rapidly changing environment, the CMPA continues to evolve and strengthen its strategic engagement and governance practices.

It is within this context that the CMPA is seeking a strategic, influential, and forward-thinking leader to serve as its Executive Director, Strategic Engagement & Governance.

Reporting to the CEO and as a key member of the Executive Leadership Team, the Executive Director will provide leadership, management, and strategic direction for the CMPA’s governance framework, stakeholder engagement, advocacy, and corporate communications. This includes overseeing three critical departments—Corporate Services & Governance, Communications & Marketing, and Strategic Engagement & Advocacy—to drive a cohesive strategy that positions the CMPA as a vital partner in a rapidly evolving healthcare system.

The Executive Director will be responsible for modernizing governance practices, fostering strong relationships with the CMPA’s Council (Board), and providing expert guidance on governance transformation. They will ensure corporate messaging is impactful, strategic, and aligned with CMPA’s mission while strengthening relationships with more than 60 key stakeholders across provincial and territorial healthcare systems. In addition, they will champion a culture of engagement, continuous improvement, and innovation, working collaboratively to shape advocacy strategies that support the CMPA’s strategic priorities.

As the ideal candidate, you hold a relevant post-secondary degree, with an MBA or other advanced degree considered an asset. You have experience advancing transformational initiatives within medium-sized, complex organizations and a proven ability to lead highly skilled teams through enterprise-wide change. With strategic foresight, you navigate challenges, remove barriers, and create the conditions for success. Recognized as a trusted advisor and influential leader, you bring political savvy, strong business acumen, and the ability to drive meaningful impact. A collaborative and empathetic leader, you foster high-performing teams while championing equity, diversity, and inclusion as core pillars of the workplace. Your exceptional communication skills, along with bilingual proficiency in English and French (strongly preferred), equip you to excel in this dynamic and impactful role.
