The City of Port Coquitlam has an exciting opportunity in the Building Division of the Development Services Department for a Plumbing Official II. This is regulatory and enforcement work of a technical nature as described under the Building Act for a Level 2 Plumbing Official. Reporting to the Manager of Building, the Plumbing Official II reviews plans, monitors and inspects a variety of installations to ensure compliance to the BC Building code.

Some of the key responsibilities of this position include but are not limited to:

Inspects residential, commercial, industrial and institutional projects for plumbing, hydronic heating, sprinklers, and sewer connections at various stages of completion to ensure compliance with applicable by-laws, acts, codes, regulations and standards
Plan-checking complex layout plans and specifications for plumbing, hydronic heating and sprinkler installations to ensure compliance with applicable codes, Acts, by-laws, standards and regulations
In addition to standard plumbing installations, inspects building foundation drain tiles and the fire protection water service from the property line to the main valve station
Coordinates and processes applications through relevant City departments; compiles documentation; and recommends and issues a variety of permits
Reviews and evaluates reports submitted by designers or registered professionals

The successful candidate for this position will have:

Thorough knowledge of building codes, bylaws, acts, standards, regulations, policies and procedures that govern the work
Ability to review and interpret plans and specifications and to recognize technical requirements for building construction and plumbing work
Exceptional customer service skills
A diploma in building technology from a recognized post-secondary institution, or trade certificate in plumbing issued under the Inter- provincial Red Sea program, plus some experience as a Plumbing Official
Registered member of the BOABC as Plumbing Inspector Level II
Class 5 Drivers Licence for the Province of BC
Cross Connection Control Administrator Certificate
