Role Description

This is a full-time, on-site role located in Halifax, NS for a Senior Accountant. The Senior Accountant will oversee financial operations, including preparing financial statements, managing accounts payable and receivable, reconciling general ledger accounts, and ensuring compliance with tax regulations. This role plays a key part in maintaining strong financial controls, improving processes, and supporting business decision-making.

Key Responsibilities

Assist in preparing and reviewing monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements
Analyze financial results and variances, providing insights and recommendations
Assist with preparation of internal and external financial reports
Oversee general ledger activities, including journal entries and account reconciliations
Ensure accuracy and completeness of financial records
Manage month-end and year-end close processes
Review work completed by junior accounting staff
Monitor accounts payable and receivable processes
Ensure timely billing, collections, and vendor payments
Oversee bank reconciliations and cash flow tracking
Maintain and strengthen internal controls and accounting policies
Support audits by preparing documentation and responding to auditor requests
Support routine tax filings
Identify opportunities to improve efficiency and accuracy in accounting processes
Collaborate with operations and leadership teams to provide financial insights
Support property managers or department leaders with budget tracking and cost analysis
Act as a key point of contact for accounting-related questions

Qualifications

Strong accounting skills, including financial reporting, and general ledger reconciliation
Proficiency in financial software
Knowledge of tax compliance, financial regulations, and audit processes
Analytical thinking, attention to detail, and ability to present financial data clearly
Excellent communication, problem-solving, and organizational skills
Ability to work independently, meet deadlines, and prioritize tasks effectively
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field (CPA designation considered an asset)
Previous experience in property management or real estate accounting is an asset
