The Opportunity
The City of St. John’s Tourism, Culture and Business Growth division is currently seeking a motivated and experienced individual to work as a Community Services Assistant to support our Summer Programs and Events.
Accountabilities
The Community Services Assistant will be responsible for assisting departmental staff with operational services for the upcoming summer season. They must be comfortable to control and distribute/deliver recreation equipment and supplies, as well as assist in the delivery and set-up of special events equipment.

Qualifications
- High School Diploma
- Previous experience driving and delivering equipment
- Carry out verbal and written instructions accurately and quickly
- Maintain effective communications and cooperation with all levels of staff, participants, and the public.
- Familiarity with recreation program equipment, operations and activities would be an asset
This position is classified as a safety sensitive position. The City of St. John’s has a comprehensive Drug and Alcohol Policy to ensure fitness for work and the completion of a satisfactory alcohol and drug test is a mandatory pre-employment requirement.
Other Requirements
- Royal Newfoundland Constabulary (RNC) Criminal Record Screening Certificate AND Vulnerable Sector Check – Dated not more than six months prior to hire
- Valid Class 5 Driver's License and driver’s abstract dated no more than 30 days prior to hire
- Applicants must be self-motivated and able to carry out responsibilities in an independent manner.
Additional Qualifications (Provided Free For Successful Candidates If Required)
- Standard First Aid
- Basic Cardiac Life Support (CPR level C)
Physical Requirements
Ability to perform labor intensive tasks such as lifting/moving equipment related to recreation programs and special events. The incumbent must be able to lift a minimum of 25 pounds.
Hours of Work
Monday – Friday, 9:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. (some flexible scheduling may be required).
- Period of employment: June 24 – August 29, 2025
- Must be available to attend mandatory training. Some training may be offered virtually, evenings and/or weekends.
Rate of pay effective April 1, 2025.
