My client is a multi-entity, high-growth organization, they’re strengthening the finance team with a hands-on General Accountant who can own the full-cycle accounting and support a disciplined month-end close.
The Role:
The General Accountant ensures the accuracy, timeliness, and integrity of the full-cycle accounting process across multiple entities. Beyond routine entries, this role includes retail inventory/COGS accounting, intercompany entries, and preparing month‑end schedules/analyses. The ideal candidate is detail‑oriented, proactive, and comfortable in a fast‑paced, high‑volume retail environment with significant responsibility for Accounts Payable.
Key Responsibilities
● Full-cycle accounting for assigned entities: daily entries, accruals/prepaids, and month‑end close.
● Prepare bank, credit card, and balance sheet reconciliations; resolve variances promptly.
● Accounts Payable in high‑volume environment: review coding and approvals, ensure accurate cut‑off and assist with payment run readiness for large invoice volumes.
● Assist with AR reviews and reconciliation (cash application, deposit verification) to ensure accuracy.
● Compile month‑end working papers,
● Assist and file GST/PST filings and other compliance requirements.
● Contribute to process improvements; document in Trainual and help automate where possible.
Qualifications
● Education: Diploma or Degree in Accounting; working toward CPA is an asset.
● Experience: 3–5+ years in full‑cycle accounting; retail or distribution experience with inventory/COGS required; exposure to high‑volume AP environments preferred.
● Technical: Strong reconciliation skills; solid Excel (pivot tables, lookups, reconciliations).
● Systems: Proficiency with accounting software; NetSuite (or similar ERP/POS integration) highly valued.
● Knowledge: Canadian GAAP (ASPE) and GST/PST compliance.
● Soft Skills: Clear communicator, organized, and able to manage competing priorities.
This is a key role in ensuring the accuracy and efficiency of financial operations across a multi-entity organization. The successful candidate will bring strong technical skills, attention to detail, and the initiative to drive efficiency in the accounts payable function while contributing to the overall success of the company. The role is an in-office position.
