Your Role in Supporting Our Members:
As an Account Manager on the Commercial Real Estate team, you will play a critical role in growing and managing the portfolio of loans to values aligned businesses and social purpose real estate projects, including (but not limited to) term and construction financing of market rental housing, affordable housing, green buildings, and community spaces. You will join a small, diverse team of entrepreneurial, purpose-driven individuals, and will contribute and develop your expertise in credit underwriting, portfolio management and funding, with a specialized lens on real estate finance.
This is a Full-time, Permanent role based at the Vancity Community Investment Bank head office location and your Ontario based home office. You will report directly to the Manager, Business Development - Commercial Real Estate. While this position provides a hybrid work arrangement, you will be expected to be on-site for events and business demands.
How You'll Make an Impact:
- Completing underwriting and analysis of commercial mortgage transactions for term and construction facilities, including detailed analysis of the borrower, real estate security, and loan terms to ensure all files meet industry and company regulatory requirements
- Assessing suitability, reviewing risks, and completing due diligence requirements on commercial mortgage transactions in accordance with the company’s risk appetite
- Preparing and issuing letters of interest and commitment letters outlining all conditions that must be met with the company’s satisfaction and according to negotiated and approved terms
- Maintaining consistent, objective, and sound risk assessments in a service-oriented environment
- Providing guidance and decision-making to support the origination team in solving problems
- Working effectively with colleagues across teams to improve underwriting systems to maximize effectiveness and achieve excellence
- Maintaining a pipeline of transactions and a list and file of all transactions amended, declined, or approved to support accountability, effective reporting, and decision-making
- Completing loan renewals and annual reviews
- Coordinating the closing process with solicitors, third-party consultants, and clients, ensuring that all funding requirements have been met
What You’ll Bring to the Team:
- Bachelor's degree and/or master’s degree in business, economics, finance or related field
- Minimum of 3 years’ real estate financing experience
- Knowledge of the Ontario commercial real estate market
- Strong interest in advancing social purpose and sustainable real estate
- Strong interpersonal and writing skills
- Experience in commercial credit underwriting and evidence of strong business and financial analytical skills
- Strong communications skills (oral and written)
- Business banking, CMHC financing, and project finance experience an asset
