SUMMARY OF DUTIES
Reporting to the Project Manager of Surveys, direct and work with survey crews to plot and measure lines and angles in the City of Hamilton. Use ability to assume responsibility to develop ideas into completed projects independently as survey technologist.
GENERAL DUTIES
Direct and work with a survey crew using a wide variety of tools and equipment.
Research projects by using registered plans, field notes and deeds; consult with private survey firms; title search at Land Registry Office.
Input and retrieve survey data from survey hardware and computers.
Use survey instruments, data collectors and computers.
Perform legal, topographic and construction surveys to Corporate and Provincial standards.
Search for survey evidence in the field.
Record, analyze, verify, calculate, resolve and define precise survey positions and measurements.
Analyze, edit and prepare raw data to finished project in digital and hard copy formats.
Locate underground cables, pipelines and sewers.
Perform confined space entries.
Write reports, compile statistics, store data, update databases.
Develop horizontal and vertical geodetic networks.
Operate City vehicle.
Receive and answer enquiries from staff, other departments, public and police.
Complete time sheets.
Train new staff.
Testify in court on behalf of City.
Perform other duties as assigned which are directly to the major responsibilities of the position.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Proven knowledge of theories and practices in surveying, normally acquired by attaining a Technologist Diploma in a relevant discipline or an equivalent combination of education and relevant work experience.
- Previous experience in leading a survey crew as a party chief in charge of a survey crew performing legal and engineering surveys.
- Experience in a computerized environment. Experience and knowledge in surveying software, data collection, total station & GPS receiver operation, ability to upload, download and process survey data in Micro Survey, Bentley InRoads and Microstation.
- Must possess a Class "G" Driver's Licence.
THIS POSITION REQUIRES A VALID CLASS "G" DRIVER'S LICENCE AND PROOF THEREOF IS REQUIRED AFTER HIRE.

HOURS:
35 per week
