About the role
We are seeking an experienced Database Administrator to join our team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for managing, maintaining, and optimizing our database environments to ensure high availability,
security, and performance. This role involves performing day-to-day database administration tasks, including backup and restore operations, troubleshooting, and performance tuning.
What you’ll be working on
- Installation, configuration and upgrading of Oracle server software and tools.
- Assist in the technical evaluation of new database versions and features.
- Establish and maintain backup and recovery policies and procedures.
- Provide technical advice, subject matter expertise, and guidance on the analysis, interpretation, and evaluation of complex database features.
- Provide technical day to day operational support to; incident management (break/fix), change management, release management, and maximize availability and usability of cluster supported solutions.
- Implement and maintain database security
- Perform database tuning and performance monitoring
- Assist developers to perform application tuning and performance monitoring
- Manage and upgrade the relevant database schemas as needed by applications.
- Perform technical trouble shooting and give consultation to development teams.
- Providing day-to-day support and maintenance for key Oracle databases.
- Working with various teams to resolve performance and integrity issues.
- Work with other teams to implement changes to test and production environments.
- Assist in various database administration tasks for ERP application upgrade process.
- Ensuring proper backups are taken and responsible for any database recovery needed.
- Database setup and/or architecture and the general application functionality used to maintain data integrity.
- Installing and testing Oracle software and patches as needed.
- Ability to function successfully in a highly stressful, 24x7 mission critical environments.
- Setup and maintain detailed, accurate database technical documentation specific to installation, run/maintain and troubleshooting steps in a standard format as required
- Manage database security, user access, and roles.
- Apply patches and upgrades to maintain system stability.
- Troubleshoot and resolve database-related issues promptly.
- Document processes, configurations, and procedures for database management.
- Collaborate with application teams to support development and deployment activities.
- Technical knowledge related to SAN and LUNs, provisioning, and troubleshooting managed storage as needed.
- Perform database refreshes/restores from production to development and test environments as needed.
We’re looking for someone with
- Must have in-depth knowledge of all Oracle backup and recovery scenarios
- Must have good knowledge of Oracle security.
- Must have good working experience with Oracle OEM and diagnostic tools
- Must have good Knowledge of SQL and DML, DDL and DCL as needed to perform.
- Must have experience handling databases running on IBM AIX, Solaris and RHEL
- Must have shell scripting experience and automating repetitive administrative tasks.
- Must have excellent problem-solving skills and finding root cause to resolve issues.
- Must be a team oriented, self-motivated, and proactive.
- Must be willing to work in a dynamic, fast changing environment.
- Exceptional troubleshooting and analytical problem-solving skills.
- Ability to perform Oracle and operating system performance tuning and monitoring
- Working knowledge with backup and recovery tools would be an asset.
- Must have experience with query plans to help developers to optimize their process.
- Ability to perform SQL diagnostic tools to analyze query performance.
- Ability to perform SQL Health Check Scripts to analyze the issues.
- Ability to learn and adopt new technologies that require for database maintenance.
- Knowledge of normalization and good understanding and knowing how to enforce.
- Experience in deploying code through the various stages of the development life cycle by adopting company’s Change Control approval levels.
- Good knowledge of both database and operating system performance tuning.
- Should have the ability to handle multiple projects and deadlines
- Oracle Certified Professional (OCP) would be an asset.
- This position requires carrying pager to support databases and work off-hours also some weekend maintenance as required.
- Experience with the planning and implementation of cloud-based Oracle database solutions would be an asset.
- Working experience with databases running on ERP applications (PeopleSoft, EBS or Hybris) would be an asset.
- Experience with Microsoft SQL Database Administration would be an asset.
- Experience with Oracle upgrades from Oracle 10g to newer versions and non-RAC to RAC environments would be an asset.
