We are looking for a Network Engineer to join one of our clients, a major corporate investment bank based in Montreal.
Context and Role Objectives:
The Network Services group oversees the bank’s core network infrastructure, ensuring availability, performance, and security across global environments. In this role, the consultant will split time between operational support, project contributions, and continuous improvement, working closely with global teams (applications, governance, infrastructure, automation, security).
You will be involved in activities such as:
- Deployment of Cisco ACI in core data centers
- Implementation of Cisco DNA within the campus
- Participation in the global network automation roadmap
- Operational support (Levels 2/3), incident/problem management, and change execution
- Collaboration in an Agile (Scrum) delivery model
Day-to-Day Responsibilities:
Operational Support & Monitoring
- Provide Level 2/3 support for network operations during business hours
- Perform daily checks and communicate morning reports
- Monitor critical network components and troubleshoot incidents
- Manage incidents and problems, ensuring timely resolution and communication
- Handle request management: prioritization, execution, and follow-up
- Contribute to operational documentation and process optimization
- Participate in on-call rotations (overnights/weekends, approx. once a month)
Change & Configuration Management
- Plan and execute changes during non-business hours (evenings/weekends)
- Review configuration changes with Level 3 engineers
- Ensure compliance with internal governance and change management standards
Project Involvement
- Support major infrastructure initiatives across data centers and campuses
- Contribute to the deployment of Cisco ACI and DNA Center
- Participate in global migrations, upgrades, and network lifecycle programs
- Collaborate with architecture, security, and applications teams on project delivery
Automation & Continuous Improvement
- Participate in the network automation strategy (Python, Ansible, GitHub)
- Help improve monitoring, alerting, and operational dashboards
- Propose enhancements to reduce incident recurrence and optimize performance
PROFILE
Experience Required:
- 5+ years of hands-on experience in network operations and/or network security
- Proven experience supporting large enterprise environments (preferably financial sector)
- Strong understanding of ITIL best practices (Incident, Problem, Change)
Technical Expertise: Core Networking:
- Cisco Catalyst (3k/4k/6k/9k), Cisco Nexus (2k/3k/5k/7k/9k)
- Layer 2/3 technologies: STP, HSRP, VDC, VPC, VLAN, LACP, OTV
- Routing platforms: Cisco ISR/ASR
- Routing protocols: OSPF, BGP, MPLS
- Multicast technologies
- Telecom concepts such as DWDM
Security & Perimeter:
- Experience with firewalls: Fortinet, Check Point, Cisco ASA
- NAC solutions
- Wireless technologies (WiFi)
Tooling & Probes:
- Monitoring tools: Shinken, Nagios
- Network visibility platforms: Corvil
- Matrix switches: Gigamon, Arista
Automation & Scripting:
- Unix/Linux basic administration
- Python & Ansible scripting
- GitHub for version control and automation pipelines
Nice to Have:
- Experience with Cisco ACI (or strong motivation to learn)
- Exposure to network automation frameworks or CI/CD
- Knowledge of Agile methodologies
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, technical diploma (DEC), or equivalent industry certification
- Bonus: Cisco CCNP or CCIE-level certification
Working environment:
- Candidates must be located in or willing to relocate to Montréal
- Fluency in English required; French is a strong plus
- Hybrid role: 4 days per week on site
- Participation in on-call rotations, including evenings/weekends
