Reporting to the Project Manager, Transit Technical Solutions, the incumbent will provide technical support in all operational and administrative support aspects during all technical systems implementation; provide support for project planning activities involving integration and coordination of systems, within the ongoing business activities of Durham Region Transit (DRT) Operations, Maintenance & Facilities, Specialized Services, Planning & Scheduling, Transit Technical Solutions, and Support Services Departments; provide local support for devices and systems; assist with any personnel or fleet scheduling requirements; and validate the proper function of the systems in revenue service and act as a technical resource to DRT. The incumbent will:
- Assist with new system implementations, upgrades, project planning, change management, system design, identification of proposed new processes, testing, data verification, and end-user support and training
- Set up standard test apparatus or device test equipment or circuitry to conduct functional, operational, environments and live tests to evaluate performance and reliability of prototype or production models; participate in the creation and execution of test scripts
- Coordinate and provide technical support in the development and implementation of operations solutions, while ensuring the effective delivery of transit services to our internal and external customers- Develop user guidelines, technical documentation; develop charts, graphs, and schematics to describe and illustrate system's operating characteristics, malfunctions, deviations from design specifications
- Recommend, analyze, evaluate, and implement system changes to determine feasibility, alternative solutions and back out procedures
- Create and coordinate Electronic Operating Data files for Smart Card Technology system, using XML scripting/coding; assist with coordination of Open Data, GTFS export and Real-Time API; maintain and provide support for all on-board technology related devices, including On Board Video Surveillance Systems
The successful candidate will possess:
- Successful completion of a Diploma/Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering or
equivalent combination of education and experience- Demonstrated, hands-on experience in analyzing and resolving technical problems for Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS); Onboard Video Surveillance Systems; direct experience with municipal transit systems
- A demonstrated ability to provide high-quality service with consideration for equity and accessibility
- Awareness of and demonstrated experience in providing operational support for IT technologies
- Proficient in Microsoft SharePoint, Microsoft Dynamics, XML schema, GTFS (Google Transit Feed Specifications) and other report creation/application integration tools
- Working knowledge of project management techniques and methodologies, system analysis and design, business process re-engineering, and change management techniques and tools
- Ability to work variable hours and to work outside in all weather conditions
- Ability to travel to offsite locations in a timely and efficient manner, as required
- Ability to handle the physical demands of the job
- Working knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act, and all regulations corresponding to this position
- Valid Ontario Class "G" driver's licence and access to a vehicle
Possession of a Project Management Professional (PMP) designation, Certified Business Analysis Professional (CBAP) designation, or an ITIL v3.0 certification, in good standing, would be an asset.
