The incumbent will:
- Assemble, prepare and organize safe, nutritious and palatable food in accordance with established standards for long term care residents and outreach clients
- Follow established menus, recipes and production sheets to organize, plan and coordinate food requirements for daily meals for service areas
- Provide instructions, delegate assignments and communicate with food service staff in regards to production requirements, panning and ingredient control
- Organize and properly rotate food items in fridges and freezers
- Maintain a safe work environment by cleaning and sanitizing counters, equipment and utensils according to established procedures
- Prepare meals for special events and functions as required
The successful applicant will possess:
- Completion of an approved Culinary Management Diploma or a Journeyman's Cook's Certification or
an equivalent combination of education and experience- A valid/approved Food Handler Certificate obtained within the past 5 years
- Minimum 2 years recent quantity cooking experience, preferably in a long term care setting
- Demonstrated knowledge of and compliance with relevant legislation, standards and best practices in areas of food preparation, safe food handling, workplace safety and long term care
- Working knowledge of computer applications (Word, Excel)
- Good communication and interpersonal skill, with the ability to follow both oral and written instructions
- Demonstrated customer service and problem solving abilities
- Willingness to acknowledge and learn from mistakes in service delivery.
- Excellent time management skills and the ability to multi-task
- The ability to work with minimal supervision, as well as in a team environment
- Physical ability to perform the essential duties of the position
