Reporting to the Supervisor/Manager, Facilities Management, Design Construction & Asset Management Division. The incumbent will:
- Create and coordinate the preparation of design drawings and technical specifications
- Coordinate and oversee multiple construction contracts for the various facility types that are leased and/or owned by the Region
- Troubleshoot complications and solve technical challenges that may unexpectedly arise
- Coordinate and control financial aspects of projects
- Coordinate and communicate the status of project design drawings, specifications, bid reviews and all related tender documents
- Complete applications for building permits, grants and subsidies
- Provide contract administration, including site reviews, ensuring projects are carried out according to drawings and specifications, budget and project timelines, and comply with the Occupational Health and Safety Act
- Maintain construction records and review progress payments
- Conduct feasibility studies, building audits and developing project cost estimates for inclusion in the budget
- The ability to address diverse needs and systematic barriers when resolving challenges
- Other related duties as assigned
The successful applicant will possess:
- A three-year post-secondary diploma in Architectural, Civil, Electrical or Mechanical Engineering Technology or equivalent
- Registration or be eligible for registration as a Technologist with O.A.C.E.T.T.
- At least two years related experience in building design and construction
- Knowledge and understanding of specifications and materials for mechanical, structural, electrical and architectural disciplines in both design and construction as well as have the ability to read plans and drawings
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, project management including negotiation and administration, problem solving, analytical, leadership and organizational skills
- The ability to coordinate the activities of Regional staff, consultants and contractors
- Knowledge and experience working with Microsoft Office, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Project, Adobe and AutoCAD
- Knowledge and understanding of Ontario Building Code, Fire Code, Construction Act, CCDC and the Occupational Health and Safety Act
- The ability to work efficiently, meet deadlines with minimal supervision using time management skills and work on multiple projects at one time
- The ability to climb high structures and enter confined spaces as necessary
- A valid Ontario Class G Driver's Licence and the use of a reliable vehicle
