Position Overview:
Highland Farms is seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Purchasing Buyer to manage wholesale procurement operations for its Mississauga location. This role is responsible for sourcing, negotiating, and purchasing a wide range of food and general merchandise—including groceries, household items, clothing, electronics, and big-ticket goods—in bulk and at discounted prices. The ideal candidate will possess strong vendor management skills, a deep understanding of wholesale distribution, and a proven ability to optimize purchasing strategies in a high-volume retail environment.
Key Responsibilities:
Procure wholesale food and general merchandise, including groceries, household goods, apparel, electronics, and seasonal items
Research and analyze market trends to identify cost-effective purchasing opportunities
Negotiate contracts, pricing, and terms with vendors and suppliers
Build and maintain strong supplier relationships
Monitor inventory levels and reorder stock to ensure profitability and availability
Assess supplier performance and product quality standards
Ensure adherence to health and safety regulations
Analyze sales data to forecast purchasing needs and trends
Manage procurement budgets and drive cost-efficiency
Track and report key purchasing performance metrics
Apply merchandising principles such as space utilization, product placement, and unit cost analysis
Evaluate store traffic and promotional impact on sales and profitability
Qualifications & Experiences:
Minimum 5-7 years of experience in wholesale purchasing or distribution, preferably in food and general merchandise
Bachelor’s degree in business, supply chain management, or a related field.
Strong negotiation and communication skills.
Proficiency in inventory and procurement systems; advanced Excel skills preferred
Knowledge of market trends and consumer preferences.
Ability to work independently in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment
Certified Purchasing Manager (CPM) or similar credential.
Excellent organizational and multitasking abilities.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook).
Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.
Understanding of supply chain management principles.
