Front-End Designer – Digital Service Modernization
Location: Remote (Occasional Team Meetings in Edmonton, AB)

Description:
We’re seeking up to three Front-End Designers to support a major public sector initiative focused on modernizing digital services, improving user experience, and driving innovation across government programs.
This work is part of a broader mandate to streamline services, introduce modern digital practices, and create simpler, more intuitive experiences for residents. You’ll be joining a central digital design and delivery team that champions human-centered design, agile methods, and data-driven decision making.
About the Role
As a Front-End Designer, you’ll collaborate within cross-functional teams including product owners, researchers, developers, and service designers to rethink and reimagine how public services are delivered. These teams conduct end to end digital transformation, from researching current service challenges to designing, testing, and launching improved solutions.
The work is iterative and fast-paced, evolving with user needs, business priorities, and technical opportunities.
Responsibilities:
- Designing creative, evidence-based front-end solutions aligned to established design standards.
- Producing foundational design artifacts such as wireframes, prototypes, pattern libraries, component libraries, style guides, and build-ready design specifications.
- Planning and supporting design research, including user interviews, field studies, or usability testing.
- Presenting clear, justified recommendations that support team alignment and decision-making.
- Actively participating in Agile ceremonies, including sprint planning, reviews, demos, and retrospectives.
- Creating usability test plans and evaluation reports for current and future designs.
- Assessing design accessibility and providing recommendations to meet applicable accessibility requirements.
Must-Have Experience
- Demonstrated experience as a Front-End Designer focused on enhancing and delivering digital services across web or other digital platforms.
- Experience creating key UX artifacts such as scenarios, journey storyboards, wireframes, and prototypes.
- Experience working within a cross-functional Agile product team.
- Ability to explore and present multiple design approaches to solve a problem.
- Experience producing designs for multiple device types (web, mobile, etc.).
- Working knowledge of accessibility standards, including WCAG.
- Experience using modern design tools (e.g., Figma, Sketch, Adobe XD, Axure, etc.).
- Familiarity with current design thinking and digital delivery methodologies.
Nice-to-Have Experience
- Experience contributing to or maintaining design systems or component libraries.
- Experience working on digital transformation projects in the public sector or within a central digital office.
