Job Summary:
The Fibre Optics Technician is responsible for providing installation and maintenance for equipment in the field. Their duties include installation, troubleshooting and repairs. The role also involves troubleshooting equipment, advising customers, building relationships, and creating service call reports.
Key Responsibilities:
- Installation of structured cabling systems, pulling, terminating and testing copper and fiber cabling as per specifications and customer requirements.
- Troubleshoot and test various network and connectivity related issues.
- Installation of network equipment and LAN room buildouts.
- Installation of cable support systems i.e. cable tray, conduit, and J-hooks.
- Site surveys to determine project requirements.
- Design and install cable pathway and support systems i.e. cable trays, cable racks, J-hooks, conduit.
Qualifications:
- 5+ years of experience in network equipment installation and cabling (copper & fiber) installation, termination, testing, and troubleshooting
- Experience with Belden, Panduit, AMP systems (certification a plus)
- Conduit experience is an asset
- Able to read technical drawings and deliver accurate documentation
- Strong project management skills; able to handle multiple projects and meet deadlines
- Knowledge of safety protocols and commitment to a safe work environment
- Excellent communication, customer service, and teamwork skills
- Proficient with Microsoft Office and general computer use
- Flexible to work evenings, weekends, and emergency calls as needed
- Willing to travel for occasional multi-night, out-of-town projects
- Valid driver’s license with clean record; must pass RCMP background check
