The Opportunity
We are seeking a Process Safety Engineer to join our team in Calgary, AB. In this role, you will direct and coordinate risk control efforts including process safety engineering and loss prevention activities. The focus is on engineered safety — assessing technical process and engineering risks to protect against losses. You will work closely with multi‑disciplinary engineers, project teams, and operational representatives.
Key Accountabilities
- Provide day‑to‑day support to engineering and operating teams in process safety management and fire protection engineering
- Categorize process safety events in hazardous classifications by calculating discharges
- Lead, facilitate, and participate in process hazard analyses such as HAZOPs
- Assist with hazard identification and mitigation of operational process risks, ensuring safeguards are as low as reasonably practicable
- Lead or participate in root cause investigations on process safety events, developing recommendations to improve operations and mitigate future incidents
- Deliver technical safety engineering expertise aligned with industry standards (API, NFPA, FMG)
- Support and promote a strong process safety culture across operations
- Analyze lagging indicators on process safety events, identify trends, and develop solutions to prevent recurrence
Skills & Qualifications
- Minimum 10 years of operations/process experience
- Process Safety Engineering experience preferred
- Background in Chemical or Process Engineering an asset
- Registration with APEGA as a Professional Engineer
- Petroleum industry experience in engineering design and/or operations
