We’re hiring a Senior Ruby on Rails Engineer at DataDocks (remote within Canada).
DataDocks is a 12-year-old, profitable, bootstrapped SaaS used by major brands across North America. We help large facilities coordinate and move freight more efficiently, and we’ve grown quietly and steadily without outside investors.
We’re a small engineering team (4 people today), and we keep meetings to a minimum. The focus is on building, solving real problems, and giving people the autonomy to do great work without layers of approvals or corporate overhead.
Why this role might interest you
This isn’t a maintenance job.
You’ll work directly with me (founder) on meaningful engineering challenges across scheduling, availability logic, rule engines, and multi-location workflows.
Some examples of the types of work you’d take on:
- High-volume appointment processing across many facilities
- Performance and optimization work in Rails and Postgres
- Redesigning and owning core modules end-to-end
- Architecture decisions as we scale
- Workflow automation and external system integrations
We’re stable but still growing. You’ll have a real voice in technical direction and product decisions — and we want you to have one.
What the role looks like
- Primarily Rails (we keep most logic in Rails), with React (only when needed, rails first!)
- Designing and shipping product enhancements
- Improving performance across Rails, Postgres, SQL, and caching
- Building new customer-facing features and integrations
- Troubleshooting and refining existing systems
- Helping shape engineering standards as the team grows
What we’re looking for
- 4+ years professional Rails experience
- Strong SQL/Postgres experience
- Some experience with React
- Someone who enjoys autonomy, ownership, and solving real problems
- Someone who wants to join a small team and avoid the corporate world
Location
Remote within Canada.
Why people enjoy working here
- 100% remote
- Bootstrapped and profitable
- Low-meeting culture
- Direct access to decision-making
- Flexible work environment
- Real impact and ownership
- Your work is used by well-known brands every day
Benefits
- Health, dental, and extended health coverage
- MacBook and the equipment you need to do your best work
- Allowance for home office setup
- Team lunches (remote or in-person when we get together)
- Annual company retreat
- Annual learning and development budget
