Responsibilities
- Prepare and examine accounting records and financial reports for a portfolio of High-Net-Worth individuals, corporations, and partnerships
- Prepare files for submission to professional service providers in preparation for meeting tax compliance requirements in Canada, the US and other jurisdictions for a portfolio of High-Net-Worth individuals, corporations and partnerships
- Assist professional service providers in the preparation of US income tax returns and other requisite forms as required for a portfolio of holding and investment corporations
- Manage correspondences with tax authorities, reconciliation of tax accounts, and the reports to management and owners
- Provide assistance with audits by tax authorities through tax analysis, information gathering and status documentation
- Plan and implement an income tax compliance process to ensure tax reporting deadlines are met
- Manage external service providers in numerous jurisdictions so that tax and business objectives are met in a cost-efficient and timely manner
- Collaborate in the planning process and execution of repatriation transactions to identify any tax withholding and liability issues, and propose alternate scenarios
- Work with the CFO-Family Office on Canadian and multi-foreign jurisdictional tax planning (inbound and outbound) in order to achieve tax and operational efficiencies
- Work with the CFO-Family Office on special transactions including mergers, acquisitions, business reorganizations and estate planning
- Identify and communicate trends and developments in tax which are relevant to High-Net-Worth individuals and corporations
- Work Allocation:
40% - Canadian Corporate compliance
20% - Individual Tax Compliance
25 % - Planning & M&A
15% - Corporate distributions
Qualifications
- Professional accounting designation – CPA
- 3-5 years of progressive experience with a public accounting firm or a mid-level tax position in industry
- Completion or currently enrolled in the CPA In-Depth Tax Course or a Masters of Tax program
- Strong Excel and Visio skills
- Has the ability to work independently
- Contribute to team objectives
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- High-level client service skills including the ability to meet deadlines
- Familiarity with Canadian tax research tools and tax software
- Prior exposure to US tax rules is beneficial
- Proven experience advising individuals and corporations on income tax issues and general business matters
- Strong analytical capability, sound business sense and creative mind
- Integrity, honesty, and sound judgment regarding confidential matters
