We are working exclusively with BMO to add key leadership personnel to the business with subject matter expertise in engineering design for mission critical facilities . In this role you will provide technical leadership, design governance, and oversight for all critical environment building systems, and ensure that projects and operations achieve the highest standards of resilience, safety, efficiency, and compliance .
This is a role of strategic importance to an organization that has a global presence, with critical sites located in Canada, the US, and the UK.
Key Accountabilities
Technical Expertise & Governance
- Provide subject matter expertise and technical direction for the design of critical electrical, mechanical, and communications systems.
- Review and validate design documents, calculations, and specifications to ensure compliance with enterprise standards, regulations, and best practices.
- Act as the regional escalation point for resolving complex engineering and design challenges.
Mission Critical Systems Support
- Oversee the regional application of best practices for power distribution, UPS, backup generation, HVAC, and communication systems.
- Partner with local operations teams to ensure designs and upgrades support 24/7/365 availability and reliability requirements.
- Lead or support root cause analysis (RCA) following significant incidents, integrating lessons learned into future design work.
Innovation & Energy Strategy
- Monitor industry advancements and identify opportunities to enhance reliability, sustainability, and operational performance.
- Support regional initiatives to advance energy management, carbon reduction, and efficiency goals without compromising resilience.
- Promote continuous improvement in engineering design processes and practices.
Team Guidance & Mentorship
- Provide ongoing technical guidance, coaching, and mentorship to regional engineers across disciplines.
- Encourage knowledge sharing and professional development within the team.
- Support succession planning by helping build depth of technical expertise within the regional group.
Stakeholder Engagement
- Act as a trusted technical advisor to internal project managers, operations teams, and external consultants.
- Communicate engineering risks, requirements, and recommendations clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Build strong working relationships with regional stakeholders to support effective project execution and operational outcomes.
Qualifications
- University degree in Electrical Engineering or related discipline; Professional Engineer (P.Eng. with PEO, or equivalent) required.
- 15+ years of experience in mission critical facilities engineering and design, including project delivery and operational support.
- Recognized SME in electrical and communications systems, with broad understanding of mechanical, structural, and architectural systems.
- Experience providing design governance, technical oversight, and mentorship within a multi-disciplinary engineering environment.
- Strong problem-solving, analytical, and decision-making skills under high-pressure conditions.
- Excellent communication skills, able to translate complex technical concepts into clear, actionable insights.
