RECREATION SUMMER STUDENTS 2026 – RETURNING STAFF
Note: This category is for RECREATION Returning Summer Students only. If you did not hold a 2025 Summer Student position within the Recreation Division, please apply to the “New Applicants” posting which will become available on January 15th, 2026.
A Recreation Returning Summer Student is a student who has held a Summer Student position within the Recreation Division in the City of Hamilton in 2025 and has received a favorable re-hire status on their 2025 end of season performance evaluation. This information will be verified at time of consideration.
Upon successful submission of your updated resume and shortly after the soft closing date in January, you will receive an e-mail containing the following information:
- Confirmation that your position is available for the 2026 Summer season.
- A written conditional offer of Summer employment.
- Documentation required to be printed and completed by you, confirming your acceptance of Summer employment, and remitted to the designated City staff point of contact.
- The name of the City staff point of contact and email address for remittance of your letter of acceptance.
- Response deadline.
As transfers requests are not accepted for Summer Student positions, we ask that if you are interested in applying to another Summer Student position offered within another category, you will need to apply to the category that interests you and complete the questionnaire in full and submit the required documentation.
All offers are made conditionally and will only be confirmed once the conditional offer letter of employment is signed and returned, along with all the required documentation. Failure to return the signed conditional offer letter of employment and all required documentation to the City contact via email by the date indicated in the e-mail will indicate to the hiring manager that you are NOT accepting the position that has been offered. We will, at that time, proceed to offer the position to the next available candidate.
NOTE 1: Vulnerable Sector (VS) Check or Criminal Record and Judicial Matters (CRJM) Check - As you would be considered a RECREATION Returning Summer Student, you will be provided and required to complete and sign an Attestation Form acknowledging if there has been any changes (incidents, and/or criminal convictions or offences for which a pardon has not been granted) since your original VS/CRJM Check submission. If you have turned 18 years of age since summer 2025, you will be required to get a Vulnerable Sector (VS) check at your own cost.
NOTE 2: Licenses and Certifications - All Summer Student positions within the Recreation Division require specific licenses and/or certifications (please refer to each position). Please be aware that at time of assessment (which could be as early as days after the posting closes), you will be asked to provide "proof" of you possessing the required licenses and/or certificates. Please ensure all licenses and certifications are clearly identified on your resume.
NOTE 3: "Standard" First Aid with CPR Level "C" Certification" – As a Returning Recreation Summer Student you must possess and maintain current certification in "Standard" First Aid with CPR Level "C". (This must be clearly identified on your resume.) All "Standard" First Aid certificates must be issued by a training agency recognized by the Workplace Safety Insurance Board (WSIB). Please refer to the WSIB website www.wsib.on.ca for approved providers. At time of assessment (which could be as early as days after the posting closes), you will be asked to provide "proof" that you possess the required certificate(s).
NOTE 4: All required qualifications must be clearly identified on your resume and must be current for the entire employment period.
