About the Role
Senior Mechanical Engineers at Prism are advanced technical designers who perform comprehensive building system upgrades. They have strong Project Management skills as they will lead and get involved in all the different project stages, namely, response to Requests for Proposals (RFPs), systems analyses, concept and schematic design, detailed design, procurement services, and construction administration. They interact directly with owners and will lead team members coming from various engineering disciplines and sub-consultants to change systems for a better world.
The following are the areas of responsibility.
Building Systems Design
Provide leadership for the following:
- Conduct of conceptual designs and detailed cost estimates for building system upgrades, development of business cases and preparation of client reports
- Carrying out concept, schematic and detailed design of building systems, applying engineering knowledge in the preparation of technical specifications and drawings
- Preparing tender documentation for the procurement of equipment and installation, in coordination with the owners requirements
- Ensuring that construction and implementation are carried out within agreed project timelines, in coordination with owners and constructors. Carrying out field reviews, reviewing documents during construction, and providing instructions and solutions to the problems to ensure the project is constructed per design intent and the owners requirements.
Project Management
- Managing projects and phases. This includes resource planning, budgeting, change management, scope management, schedule and contingency planning, and resolution.
- Providing guidance and supervision to more junior members of the team.
Marketing and Business Development
- Preparing technical responses to Requests for Proposal (RFPs)
- Promoting the team's and wider Prism services (i.e. cross-services marketing) to existing and potential clients.
- May also lead or develop a service area.
This is a 40-hour per week salaried position, in a hybrid environment, and will be primarily based in our main office. The candidate must have the ability to travel locally, making occasional trips to other BC communities and provinces in western Canada.
The salary range is $100,000 to $130,000. We will consider your level of experience and responsibilities, competencies, and unique offering to our team.
Qualifications and Experience

The following qualifications, experience, and competences are considered major assets:
- Equivalent of more than ten years of direct experience in the detailed design of building mechanical systems
Exposure to various types of facilities (strong exposure to commercial- and institutional-type projects preferred) and systems (HVAC, plumbing, fire suppression)
- Skilled understanding of developing drawings and specifications
- Strong Project Management skills and experience
- Applied knowledge of energy efficiency, sustainability, and climate change considerations in designs
