Our client, an industry-leading organization in the heavy equipment and mining services sector is seeking an experienced Mining Reliability Engineer to join their onsite team in Fort McMurray.
This role is central to optimizing the reliability, performance, and lifecycle of large-scale mobile mining equipment operating in demanding oil sands environments.
The successful candidate will work hands-on with field maintenance teams, reliability specialists, OEM partners, and internal technical groups to identify mechanical risks, analyze performance data, and develop actionable plans that improve equipment availability and reduce downtime. Key Responsibilities
Equipment Reliability & Optimization (30%)
- Monitor equipment performance and identify emerging failure trends.
- Conduct Root Cause Analysis (RCA) and Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA).
- Investigate excessive downtime and develop corrective action plans.
- Review component failure data and implement reliability improvements.
Maintenance Strategy Development (20%)
- Build and optimize preventive and predictive maintenance plans.
- Support condition-based monitoring programs and reliability improvement initiatives.
- Lead efforts to enhance PA, MA, MTBF, and MTTR metrics.
Data Analysis & Reporting (20%)
- Analyze KPIs and produce data-driven performance insights.
- Ensure accuracy and organization of equipment data in CMMS tools.
- Utilize platforms such as MineStar, VIMS, SAP, Maximo, or Power BI to drive decisions.
Cross-Functional Collaboration (15%)
- Serve as the onsite reliability point of contact for customer, technical, and OEM stakeholders.
- Participate in audits, warranty assessments, and technical reviews.
- Support autonomy-related initiatives and fleet improvement projects.
Spare Parts & Inventory Management (10%)
- Ensure availability of critical spares and forecast component life cycles.
- Collaborate with analysts to benchmark performance across fleets and sites.
- Provide data to support product and design improvement initiatives.
Support & Project Execution (5%)
- Assist with new equipment commissioning and validate reliability standards.
- Contribute to the development of lifecycle strategies from deployment to decommissioning.
Qualifications & Experience
- 5–7+ years of technical experience in mining reliability, mobile equipment maintenance, or heavy industrial environments.
- Engineering degree (Mining, Mechanical, Civil, or related).
- P.Eng. designation in Alberta or British Columbia is an asset.
- Strong hands-on experience with mobile mining equipment (haul trucks, shovels, dozers, loaders).
- Knowledge of diesel engines, hydraulics, powertrain systems, and structural components.
- Experience conducting RCA, FMEA, condition monitoring, and component life analysis.
- Familiarity with diagnostic and analytics platforms such as VIMS, SIS2.0, ET, Dealer Connect, MineStar , or equivalent.
- Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office, data interpretation, reporting, and technical documentation.
- Excellent communication, time management, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently in fast-paced, field-based environments.
