Your Role in Supporting Our Members:
Vancity is modernizing its technology foundation and scaling its cloud first strategy across digital banking, core banking, data platforms and member facing services. We are looking for a highly skilled Site Reliability Engineer (SRE) who will help build, operate and continuously improve the reliability, performance, security and automation of our cloud platforms. This is a hands-on engineering role and you will design, automate, and support Azure services that are secure, observable, resilient, and built for scale and efficiency. Additionally, you will actively automate and operate cloud services that meet strict reliability, security and compliance standards. You are also expected to maintain the on-premise and data center workload.
We are looking for a proactive, technically skilled individual who thrives in problem solving and continuous learning. This is a Full-time, Permanent role that will enjoy hybrid working arrangements which can be fulfilled primarily from the Vancity head office location and your Lower Mainland based home office. This role may require you to work on-site at least two days a week and for events and business demands. This requirement might change in future as per business need. You will also participate in an on-call rotation to provide support.
You will be expected to operate with technical leadership across the following domains:
1. Reliability Engineering
- Own availability, performance, SLIs/SLOs for key services
- Reduce MTTR through proactive monitoring, root cause investigation and remediation
- Build automated response workflows and improve runbooks and self-service capabilities.
- Lead or contribute to incident response and follow-through with actionable post-incident improvements.
2. Automation & Infrastructure Engineering
- Build IaC using Terraform / Bicep
- Design and maintain CI/CD pipelines (GitHub Actions, Azure DevOps)
- Automate deployments, scaling, configuration and drift management
3. Cloud Security, Governance & Compliance
- Deploy & manage Azure Policies, Defender for Cloud, Managed Identities, RBAC
- Enforce governance and compliance through Azure Policies and Azure Landing Zone standards.
- Implement secure by default controls, network rules, identities and secrets management.
- Work closely with InfoSec on risk reduction and audit readiness.
4. Platform Engineering
- Support Azure Landing Zones, platform upgrades and modernization efforts.
- Contribute to cloud architecture patterns and platform reference designs.
- Optimize cloud environments for cost, performance and operational sustainability.
5. Ops Excellence
- Participate in 24/7 on-call rotation
- Develop runbooks, automation playbooks and self-service tools
- Partner closely with Core Banking, Digital Banking, Data Platform, Architecture, DevOps and InfoSec teams
What You’ll Bring to the Team:
- Strong hands-on experience with Microsoft Azure (PaaS, IaaS, networking, identity, storage, and governance)
- Strong troubleshooting instincts across networking, compute, identity and CI/CD pipelines
- Experience supporting production systems in a cloud or on-premises/hybrid environment
- Experience with 24x7 production operations support and troubleshooting and participation in on-call rotation
- Experience with automating builds and releases of workload & configuration management as well as infrastructure as code via Azure DevOps pipelines
Required Technical Expertise
- Extensive experience with containers, Kubernetes platforms such as AKS or GKE is required.
- VMs, VNets, Private Endpoints, Load Balancers, App Service, API Management
- Azure Storage, Key Vault, Managed Identities, RBAC, Azure Policy & Defender for Cloud
- Experience with Azure integration services, Logic Apps, Function Apps
- Experience with Azure Event Grid
- Networking security (NSGs, Firewalls, WAF)
- Extensive experience with PowerShell, Terraform or Bicep/ARM, NodeJS or Python
- Excellent knowledge of TCP/IP, HTTP/S, REST API
Extra Skills That Set You Apart:
- Experience with databases (Microsoft SQL Server, Cosmos DB)
- Experience working in regulated industries (finance, insurance, healthcare).
- Prior experience in platform engineering, DevOps, or cloud infrastructure roles.
- Relevant Azure certifications (AZ-104, AZ-305, AZ-400, SC-100, etc.).
- Background in software engineering or platform engineering
- Experience supporting production systems at scale

What You’ll Earn:
The salary range for the role is $101,200to $124,950. The base pay offered may vary depending on factors such as relevant qualifications, skills, previous experience, and internal equity. As part of our total rewards package, employees may also be eligible for our annual incentive program, subject to program eligibility requirements.
