Job Description
Do you have a passion for working with our seniors in providing multi-faith Spiritual Care?
We are looking for an independent contractor position as a Spiritual Care Provider at Afton Park Place Nursing Home.
- approximately 14hrs/week (Monday + another day of successful applicant’s choice)
- preferred shift would be from 9:00am – 4:00pm
- computer literacy is required
- providing one on one Spiritual Care for all denomination and faiths of residents, including those who are palliating
- Designing and leading Memorial Services, Bible Studies, Holiday Services (Remembrance Day, Christmas, Easter, etc), Hymn Sings, and other group care as directed.
- Vulnerable Sector Police Check and tuberculosis check required
- Musical knowledge (piano or guitar) a benefit
- This is an independent contractor position
Qualifications
- Training and/or experience in gerontology and a genuine interest in working with residents of the Long-Term Care Community
- Training and/or experience in multi-faith programming
- Sufficient knowledge and experience to co-ordinate religious services and spiritual care in a multi-faith setting
- Minimum 2 years’ experience in Long Term Care setting
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills required
- Motivation and ability to work as part of the multidisciplinary team
- Knowledge of community resources and program development
- Membership in the Canadian Association for Spiritual Care or equivalent is an asset

- Documentation on Progress Note includes:
- Initial visit to all new residents
- Follow up on all referrals
- Attends multidisciplinary team conferences as requested and provides input prior to conference
- Assists the Manager, Life Enrichment to contact resident’s former church when requested by the resident
- Provides ongoing visitation and support to the residents
- Provides support for Palliative Care residents and families
- Provides grief and bereavement support to families and residents
- Organizes and implements in-service on related topics as requested
- Conducts or supports multi-faith religious services in recognition of denomination specific holidays
- Maintains confidentiality of resident information
- Provides input for dealing with ethical issues for the residents, staff and families as required
- Participates in the Ethics Committee
- Assists with planning Memorial Services
HEALTH AND SAFETY
- Knows and understands all Health and Safety policies, practices and safe operating procedures and consistently apply this knowledge in the course of your employment
- Wears all personal protective equipment and clothing that is required by the Employer
- Not be under the influence of a substance that is intoxicating or may impair your mental or motor skills (i.e. the misuse of over the counter or prescription drugs)
- Not be in possession or under the influence of illegal drugs (this includes transfer or possession or illegal purchase)
- Ensures that you have been adequately trained on all pieces of equipment and processes (i.e. initially, retraining and the introduction of new equipment)
- Maintains good housekeeping at all times by keeping the workplace safe and orderly
- Refrains from horseplay or any other unacceptable conduct
