This is a full-time, regular position is located in Jasper National Park, Alberta.
As a diesel Mechanic in this multi-faceted role at the Maligne Lake operations, your primary duties will be supporting the mechanical fitness and safe operations of all of our power systems on site (Marine (9 diesel powered cruise boats), on site power generation and ground fleet (staff shuttle buses). This role will also provide general maintenance support as required for on-site facilities needs working with our facilities manager. During the winter season this role will support the Columbia Icefield mechanics team in pre-seasonal readiness maintenance, ensuring the mechanical fitness of motorcoaches, heavy equipment and 21 unique Ice Explorers.
ROLES & RESPONSIBILTIES
- Safety 1st! Ensure to follow adequate and proper safety procedures when performing any duties
- Work with the Fleet maintenance Manager and lead Marine mechanic in completion of all needed and required pre-seasonal maintenance needs on all 9 cruise boats
- Perform preventative maintenance needs assigned during the season on all cruise boats in support of cruise boat up- time requirements.
- Support maintaining our on-site diesel power plant generators
- Assist in diagnosing equipment problems and determine repairs as needed
- Adjust equipment and repair or replace defective parts on various on-site equipment
- Test repaired equipment for proper performance
- Maintain a clean and tidy work area and assist with cleaning duties in all maintenance work areas
- Maligne - utilizing our Limble maintenance platform in completion of work order assignment, parts management and assurance of proper record keeping of all maintenance work completed.
- Complete all pre-operations daily mechanical checks on all operating cruise vessels as assigned, ensuring compliance to Transport Canada Marine safety management system for our vessel classifications.
- Demonstrate continuous efforts to improve maintenance operations, decrease downtime and improve processes
- Support colleagues and co-workers in their duties, demonstrating team play strength in achievement of duties, seasonal business goals and desired outcomes
- Work effectively with the boat operations team, acting as a coach and subject matter expert when it comes to explaining vessel mechanics that engage captains in learning best practices in troubleshooting and or identifying mechanical issues during operations.
Columbia Icefield Winter Operations
- Complete pre-seasonal work order maintenance on Motor coaches, Ice explorers and Heavy equipment
- Utilizing E-maintenance platform in completion of all assigned work orders for pre-seasonal maintenance needs, accurate maintenance record keeping and effective parts management.
- In alignment with peer mechanics, prepared to support in coaching and guidance to apprentices on the Icefield maintenance team in completion of work order assignments and their learning needs.
- Other duties as assigned
REQUIRED SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS
- Valid Alberta (or inter-provincial) Single ticketed or above Diesel Mechanic Journeyman certification
- Prior Marine mechanical operations and or experience with Mercury diesel engines -an asset
- Upon hire committed to attaining applicable boat operations certifications (training provided on site)
- Columbia Icefield required - Experience troubleshooting and diagnostics on Detroit Diesel, CAT, MTU and Allison engines/transmissions
- Familiar with MCI & Prevost highway coaches - an asset
- Class 5 drivers license
- Class 1, 2 or 3 driver's license with airbrake (Q) endorsement- an asset
- Ability to supply own tools up to " and impact drives
- Ability to think outside the box with a positive attitude, and problem-solving skills
- Mature, energetic, dependable and self-motivated
- Enjoy working with a team in a busy, fast-paced environment
- Must enjoy working outdoors, even in challenging mountain weather conditions
- Standard First-Aid or higher an asset.
- Comfortable working on your feet for extended periods in an outdoor environment.
- Must adhere to the Company's Drug and Alcohol policy
- Must meet the Organization grooming and appearance standards
