SUMMARY OF DUTIES
Reporting to the Supervisor, Golf Operations, performs grass cutting duties at either one of the City owned and operated golf courses. Operate hand held tools such as leaf blowers, weed eaters, push mowers and water hoses. Assist with set up procedures for golf courses as required.
GENERAL DUTIES
Operate light-duty vehicles such as riding mowers.
Operate utility vehicles for maintenance work on, and around the golf courses.
Rake and maintain sand bunkers on a daily basis.
Operate hand held tools such as shovels, rakes, leaf blowers, weed eaters, push mowers and water hoses.
Assist with daily set up procedures for golf courses as required.
Assist with irrigation needs and daily schedules as required.
Assist with maintaining soil beds for planting of flowers and shrubs.
Assist with the preparation of sod and seeding throughout the golf courses.
Perform any other duties as assigned which are directly related to the responsibilities of the position.
Work in accordance with the provisions of applicable Health and Safety legislation and all City of Hamilton corporate and departmental policies and procedures related to Occupational Health and Safety.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Previous experience related to duties listed above normally acquired through a combination of education and relevant work experience operating similar vehicles and tools.
- Must posses a Class "G" Driver’s Licence.
- Demonstrated experience in golf course maintenance and/or landscaping required.
- Working knowledge of and ability to operate hand and power tools and equipment in a safe manner.
- Knowledge and understanding of the game of golf considered an asset.
- Must possess and maintain current certification in “Standard” First Aid with CPR Level “C”. (This must be clearly identified on your resume.) All “Standard” First Aid certificates must be issued by a training agency recognized by the Workplace Safety Insurance Board (WSIB). Please refer to the WSIB website www.wsib.on.ca for approved providers. At time of assessment (which could be as early as days after the posting closes), you will be asked to provide “proof” that you possess the required certificate(s).
- High Five Training would be an asset.
HOURS: Up to 40 hours per week.
NOTE: These positions are required to work various shifts including early morning, late evening, weekday and weekend shifts. Applicants must be available for all of these shifts.
