Part Time Conventional Operator - Future Opportunities

Location

These positions are located at either Westney Division in Ajax, Ontario or Raleigh Division in Oshawa, Ontario (based on operational requirements).

Conventional Operator

Reporting to the Manager, Operations, the incumbent will:

- Transport passengers safely according to Durham Transit's routes and schedules while following Durham Region Transit's Safety Policy
- Operate assigned transit vehicles in a defensive manner
- Collect proper fares while ensuring the validity of transfers and passes
- Provide information and assist passengers in a courteous manner
- Advise Operations of schedule deficiencies and recommend minor service adjustments
- Complete accident or other reports as required
- Be responsible to comply with the policies of Durham Region Transit with regards to rules and regulations and safe working practices
- Perform other duties as assigned

The successful applicant will possess:

- Grade 12 diploma or equivalent combination of education and experience
- Minimum of an Ontario Class G licence
- Ability to meet all Ministry of Transportation requirements (including hearing and vision requirements) to obtain a Class CZ license during training
- A clean driving abstract
- Considerable experience in driving heavy vehicles, preferably transit coaches
- Be in good health and have good eyesight
- A pleasant personality and the ability to deal with the public
- The ability to communicate clearly and respectfully with individuals from diverse backgrounds

Note that part time positions do not have a guaranteed minimum number of hours per week. Shifts are comprised of evenings, weekends and split shifts.

You will also be required to provide proof of education as well as a current drivers abstract during the hiring process.

Conventional Operator Salary Information

This position will be paid at the following hourly rates:

- Training: $33.79 - Probation: $33.79 - Completion Probation: $35.66 - Completion 2080 hours: $37.54

Conditions of Employment

All applicants are expected to comply with the Region of Durham's Code of Ethics and Code of Conduct Policies throughout the recruitment process. Prior to the start date, the successful candidate will be required to provide a satisfactory Police Vulnerable Sector Check dated within two (2) months from date of hire. This must be received prior to completion of the 6-week training period. Proof of education, qualifications and any other job bona fide requirements will also be collected.
