Job Title: Electrical Engineer
Job Description
We are seeking an experienced Medium Voltage Electrical Engineer to join our dynamic team, specializing in small to medium-sized energy projects across Canada and the US. This role focuses on medium voltage electrical systems, where you will collaborate with various disciplines to ensure all engineering activities are completed successfully.
Responsibilities
- Develop motor schematics and relay schematics.
- Interface with utility companies.
- Create single-line and three-line diagrams.
- Develop specifications and data sheets for medium voltage (MV) equipment such as transformers, switchgear, MCCs, VFDs, and capacitor banks.
- Size power feeders for MV feeders.
- Design and analyze MV electrical systems (up to 13.8kV) for oil and gas facilities.
- Perform relay settings and ETAP power system studies, including load flow, short circuit calculations, ground fault rise, coordination curves, arc flash calculations, and feeder ampacity calculations.
- Specify protection relays and provide relay and breaker settings.
- Develop RFQ packages for specifying and purchasing electrical equipment.
- Review electrical equipment vendor drawings.
- Coordinate with other disciplines, clients, vendors, and construction crews to provide support.
- Offer technical support and advice to technologists.
- Effectively communicate in written and verbal forms, including report writing and presenting information to various audiences.
Essential Skills
- 10+ years of experience as an electrical engineer in power engineering projects, preferably in oil and gas.
- P.Eng registered with APEGA.
- Experience with medium voltage systems (1000V up to 13.8kV and 38kV).
- Background in small EPC environments.
- Proficiency in specifying, purchasing, and reviewing vendor equipment such as MV Switchgear, MCCs, and VFDs.
- Ability to create single-line and three-line diagrams.
- Knowledge of applicable federal, provincial, and local building codes and safety laws, especially CEC codes.
- Working knowledge of IEEE and ANSI/ISA standards.
- Proficiency in performing ETAP power system studies.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Client communication skills.
- Experience with non-technical bid spreads.
- Relay programming skills.
- Site and commissioning experience.
- Registration with EGBC is a plus.
Work Environment
The position requires collaboration with a team of ten, including engineers, consultants, designers, and drafters. Minimal site travel is expected (1-2 trips per year). The office is located in downtown and fosters a 'work hard, play hard' mentality with a casual and family-oriented atmosphere. Team members often engage in social activities outside of work, such as going for beers. The office environment encourages versatility and a quiet, steady work pace.
Job Type & LocationThis is a Contract position based out of Calgary, AB.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $88.00 - $92.00/hr.
