Southpointe is seeking an enthusiastic, dedicated and collaborativeMYP and DP Physics & Mathematics Teacher who shares a commitment to inquiry- and concept-based teaching and learning. Reporting to the Senior School Principal, the MYP and DP Physics & Mathematics Teacher position will commence August 1, 2026.
Key Duties and Responsibilities

- Understand the developmental stages and unique needs of Middle and Senior School students, and design instruction that supports their cognitive, social, and emotional growth;
- Enjoy teaching middle school students and bring enthusiasm, patience, and a sense of humour to the classroom to build strong, positive connections;
- Develop an inquiry-based and dynamic science and mathematics education program;
- Foster an appreciation for mathematical inquiry and a curiosity-driven approach to understanding the subject;
- Work collaboratively with colleagues to support the development of an inquiry-based, interdisciplinary approach to teaching and learning;
- Demonstrate strong pedagogical practice in teaching science and mathematics across multiple ability levels;
- Lead or support physics- and/or mathematics-related extracurricular activities, such as clubs or competitions, throughout the year;
- Foster caring, committed, and supportive relationships with students and families;
Create an environment that promotes an atmosphere of mutual respect, curiosity, and academic integrity; - Participate in professional development training related to the IB programmes;
- Identify and select instructional resources and methods to meet diverse student needs and learning styles;
- Design and implement a range of authentic assessments, including labs and investigations, that provide timely feedback to students and clear direction to parents;
- Maintain accurate, ongoing, and complete records of student progress for the purposes of teaching, learning, and reporting;
- Prepare reports, conduct parent-teacher conferences, and communicate with parents on an ongoing basis to foster open and supportive relationships;
- Model a strong work ethic, high standards of commitment, and maintain excellent professionalism in all interactions with colleagues, students, and parents;
- Participate in community-building events, both in and out of school hours.
Teachers at Southpointe Academy are expected to actively support the schools co-curricular program by leading a club or coaching a team for at least two terms each year. Opportunities include coaching in athletics such as basketball, volleyball, soccer, track and field, or badminton or running student clubs aligned with academic interests, leadership, service, or the arts. This involvement supports student engagement beyond the classroom and contributes to the schools vibrant learning community.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor of Education or equivalent in Physics, Mathematics or related field;
- BC Ministry of Education: Certificate of Qualification or Independent School Teaching Certificate.
Preferred Qualifications
- IB DP and/or MYP training or teaching experience;
- At least 2 years teaching experience;
- Valid First Aid Certificate.
Salary
- Southpointe's teacher salary grid is at 6% above the Delta public school salary grid at all levels of the grid;
- The annual salary for a full-time teaching position at Southpointe Academy during the 2025-2026 school year ranges from $68,422 to $116,091 based on placement on the approved teacher salary grid;
- The Southpointe salary grid will increase at a percentage to be determined for the 2026-2027 school year.
- Placement on the approved teacher salary grid is based on level of qualifications and duration of full-time teaching experience.
