SSRG is seeking a People, Performance & Safety Specialist to support Human Resources and Occupational Health & Safety initiatives across our operations!
The People, Performance & Safety Specialist will be responsible for the development, implementation and enforcement of Human Resources policies, procedures, and initiatives to ensure compliance with relevant legislation and to support the strategies and goals across all SSRG companies.
We are looking for a forward-thinking individual who will guide management on people-related issues and ensure employees have enriching and growth-oriented work experience throughout their time with our company.
Responsibilities
- Undertaking and managing workplace investigations (conduct and health & safety) from intake through disclosures
- Creating, developing and administering employee learning and development programs from scratch, such as health & safety training, supervisor training, and frontline staff upskilling
- Providing support with Occupational Health and Safety programs
- Developing, implementing and enforcing company HR policies to ensure compliance with relevant legislation
- Coaching and guiding supervisors and managers on employee development and workplace challenges
- Handling employee grievances, conducting investigations and overseeing disciplinary matters
- Overseeing the onboarding process, including the completion of required documentation for new hires
- Assisting with recruitment efforts, orientation, and training and development programs
- Managing offboarding processes
- Maintaining employee personnel files and records
- Coordinating employee performance appraisal programs
- Supporting compensation and benefits programs
- Leading employee engagement initiatives and activities
- Working collaboratively with colleagues across all internal business lines
- Promoting diversity and inclusion and fostering a culture of respect
Requirements
- A minimum of 3 years of experience in a Human Resources capacity with the key competencies noted below
- A minimum of 5 years of HSE experience
- Occupational Health and Safety Certificate
- Bachelor's Degree in Human Resources Management or related field
- Training in and practical application of trauma-informed workplace investigations principles and OH&S investigations, utilizing DNV, Tap Root, or 5 Whys
- WSBC, WSCC, WSIB and WCB experience for claims management
- Chartered Professional in Human Resources (CPHR) designation
- Experience creating, administering, and promoting OH&S programs
- Experience performing an HR function in a unionized setting is an asset
- An in-depth knowledge of labour laws, employment standards and HR practices
- Excellent English verbal and written communication skills, including negotiation and presentation skills
- A demonstrated history of building and maintaining meaningful working relationships with internal stakeholders
- An empathetic and impartial approach to problem solving that seeks to understand issues and resolve conflict both effectively and efficiently
- Broad knowledge of various cultures and experience with diversity and inclusion
- Ability to adapt to frequently changing work priorities and serve as a change agent
- Ability to maintain a level of professionalism and confidentiality in all interactions
- Ability to facilitate difficult conversations in an appropriate manner
- Ability to work remotely and in an office environment, as well as travel across Canada to remote locations
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint and HR information systems
- A workplace investigations designation or certificate would be an asset
- Professional experience working with Dayforce and/or Monday.com would be an asset
- Applicants must be legally eligible to work in Canada.
Working Conditions
This position will work traditional office hours but may be required to be available outside of scheduled hours to respond to urgent matters that may arise
This is a remote position, but based in Western Canada, working primarily within your designated home office, with travel across Canada as needed
