Heavy Duty Mechanic (Red Seal) Civil Construction Equipment
Harbour Construction Company Limited is seeking a Red Seal Heavy Duty Equipment Technician to support our civil construction operations across Nova Scotia.
This role focuses ondiagnosing, repairing, and maintaining heavy construction equipment used in earthmoving, excavation, roadbuilding, and underground utility construction. Work will be performed both in the fleet maintenance shop and in the field supporting active civil construction sites.

What You'll Do:
Heavy Equipment Maintenance & Repair
- Inspect, diagnose, and repair heavy civil construction equipment including excavators, dozers, loaders, graders, backhoes, and other earthmoving equipment
- Perform preventive maintenance such as lubrication, oil and filter changes, adjustments, and inspections
- Rebuild or replace major components including engines, transmissions, hydraulic pumps, cylinders, and final drives
- Use diagnostic tools and software to troubleshoot mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical systems
- Conduct operational testing and calibrations after repairs
Field Service Support
- Respond to equipment breakdowns on construction sites
- Work independently in field conditions while coordinating with the shop and supervisors
- Complete service reports and maintenance documentation
- Support efforts to minimize equipment downtime
Safety & Compliance
- Follow all company safety policies and procedures
- Conduct job hazard assessments prior to repairs
- Maintain a clean and organized work area
- Report hazards, near misses, and unsafe conditions
Team Support
- Communicate equipment status and repair priorities with operators, foremen, and project teams
- Provide mentorship and guidance to apprentices when required
- Support continuous improvement of fleet maintenance practices
What We're Looking For:
- Red Seal Heavy Duty Equipment Technician (Journeyperson)
- Minimum 5 years experience repairing heavy equipment
- Experience working with civil construction equipment
- Strong diagnostic skills in hydraulic, electrical, and mechanical systems
- Ability to work independently in both shop and field environments
- Valid Class 5 drivers licence with a clean driving record

Work Schedule & Environment:
Work is performed in a combination of fleet maintenance shop and active construction sites across Nova Scotia.
Typical hours are Monday to Friday, 7:00 AM 5:00 PM.
