Senior Design Technician – All‑Fab Building Components
Location: Winnipeg, MB
All‑Fab Building Components LP is seeking an experienced and detail‑driven Senior Design Technician to join our Winnipeg Design Team. Reporting to the Design Manager, you will play a key role in transforming proposals and sales orders into accurate, high‑quality shop drawings that support production and meet customer delivery timelines.
This is a senior‑level role ideal for someone with deep experience in wood truss and engineered wood product (EWP) design, strong technical skills, and a passion for mentoring others.
Key Responsibilities
- Interpret information from the Sales Department and translate it into truss layouts and engineered drawings using Mitek or equivalent design software.
- Produce accurate designs for complex residential, commercial, and agricultural projects.
- Communicate with Sales Representatives, Building Officials, and Customers to resolve design questions or concerns.
- Respond promptly to inquiries from Sales Representatives.
- Enter complete and accurate information into the management system to generate proper shop work orders.
- Secure customer approval on designs and forward finalized work orders to the Design Administrative Assistant.
- Complete required reports, including time cards and site issue documentation.
- Participate in regular design meetings and contribute to discussions on process improvements and department direction.
- Support Intermediate and Junior Designers by providing guidance, feedback, and skill development.
- Maintain positive working relationships through clear, professional communication.
- Promote effective daily huddles and encourage new ideas that enhance team performance.
- Continuously look for ways to improve customer service and design efficiency.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area.
- Perform additional duties as assigned by the Design Manager.
Experience
- 8+ years of experience in commercial and residential wood truss and EWP design (preferred).
- Strong understanding of manufacturing technology related to wood, truss, and building components.
- Proficiency with Mitek Management and Engineering software (or equivalent).
- Strong mathematical skills with a high degree of accuracy.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints with precision.
- Knowledge of basic engineering principles.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and general office equipment.
- Experience with drafting software is an asset.
