This position works in Parks Waste Services. This is truck driving work in operating single-axle rear loader garbage trucks which entails supervising the work of a subordinate. The incumbent works in an assigned area and is responsible for maintaining simple records; supplies information and handles minor complaints from the public on matters related to garbage collection as required; checks mechanical condition of truck and performs minor running repairs as required. Performs related work as required.
Qualifications include completion of grade 12 supplemented by truck driving experience or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Thorough knowledge of the rules of safe operation and of the precautions necessary to avoid accidents in driving a garbage truck. Considerable knowledge of collection schedules, of areas serviced, and of rules and regulations governing the work performed; of municipal streets and traffic routes. Ability to follow work schedules and supervise the work of a subordinate; to prepare and maintain simple records, provide information and explain applicable rules and regulations to the public. Skill in the operation of a scavenging truck in the collection of garbage and refuse. Mechanical aptitude. A valid Driver’s Licence for the Province of British Columbia is required.
Salary:
$35.28/hour (2024 rates)
$37.79/hour (2026 rates)
This is a Temporary Full Time position until October 25, 2026.

Schedule: 80 hours bi-weekly; Friday to Tuesday from 6:30 AM – 3:00 PM (Shifts range between Monday to Friday, 7:00 AM – 3:30 PM)
