Trades 2 Mechanic
The City of Delta’s Engineering Operations Department is seeking an experienced and motivated individual to join our team as a full-time Trades 2 Mechanic. This is a skilled mechanical position at the journeyman level, responsible for troubleshooting, repairing, overhauling, and maintaining Delta’s fleet and equipment. This role requires considerable independence in making repairs, performing overhauls, and carrying out preventative maintenance tasks.
We are looking for individuals with the following education, skills, and abilities:- Strong knowledge of the standard practices, methods, materials, tools, and equipment used in automotive, commercial transport, and heavy-duty mechanical trades.
- In-depth understanding of the hazards and safety precautions associated with the trade.
- Ability to perform a variety of complex, skilled mechanical tasks in the overhaul, repair, maintenance, fabrication, and adjustment of a wide variety of automotive and heavy-duty construction, maintenance, and related equipment.
- Capacity to interpret and follow oral and written instructions, as well as work from diagrams, drawings, and sketches.
- Ability to support a supervisor in the efficient operation of the shop.
- Completion of the 12th grade, supplemented by relevant technical courses. A recognized apprenticeship in the trade and substantial related experience.
The position requires a Journeyman Certificate in Automotive, Truck and Transport, and/or Heavy-Duty, along with a Commercial Vehicle Inspection Licence. A valid Class 3 Driver’s Licence with Air Brake Endorsement for the Province of B.C. is also required. If you do not currently hold a Class 3 Driver’s Licence, we will still consider your application, provided you commit to obtaining certification within a reasonable timeframe.
