The Opportunity
Reporting to the Chief Operator and under the general supervision of the Manager of Wastewater, the Wastewater Labourer II is responsible for monitoring and maintaining the Dusty Road septage receiving facility pursuant to District policies and procedures, WCB regulations and environmental regulations.
Role Requirements
Applicants must meet the following essential qualifications:
- A minimum of one year of general laboring experience
- Hold a valid Class 5 Drivers License (or inter-provincial equivalent) with clean abstract
- Live within 30 minutes driving time of the Dusty Road worksite
- Strong mechanical skills with the ability to perform maintenance of mechanical equipment and recommend courses of action
- The ability to remain calm and in stressful situations
- The ability to work around wastewater in keeping with safe work practices policies and procedures
- The ability to establish and maintain effective working relations with others
- The ability to lift, carry, push and pull heavy loads and perform other physically demanding work
- The ability to demonstrate a professional, responsive and positive work attitude
- The ability to communicate effectively and tactfully one-on-one and in a group environment
- Candidates who can demonstrate an acceptable combination of knowledge, skills and progressively responsible experience will also be considered.
Preferred
Training and certifications in confined space, WHMIS and biohazardous substances are preferred. Preference is given to those who aspire to pursue a career in wastewater at the Sechelt Water Resource Centre. Post-secondary education in wastewater and/or BC EOCP Wastewater Operator Level I certification would be an asset.
Working Conditions
This is a unionized position within the BCGEU. Wage for the position is set at Grid Level 6, $32.86 – $36.50 per hour plus a competitive extended benefits package and three weeks’ vacation to start. If you are currently employed in public service, we will match your current vacation entitlement! Hours of work are from Monday to Friday 7 AM to 3 PM. Flexibility to work occasional overtime is required. The District supports employment equity in accordance with the Human Rights Code of B.C.
