Located on Vancouver Island just 50 km north of Victoria and 30 km south of Nanaimo, the Cowichan Valley Regional District (CVRD) is in the ancestral and unceded territories of First Nations including the Quw'utsun, Malahat, Ts'uubaa-asatx, Halalt, Penelakut, Stz'uminus, Lyackson, Pauquachin, Ditidaht, and Pacheedaht Nations. Local First Nations Peoples have stewarded the lands, waters, plants, and animals of this region since beyond time immemorial. The CVRD provides a wide range of local government services to a population of 95,000. The picturesque Cowichan Valley offers a warm climate and numerous parks, recreational, cultural, and social opportunities such as majestic mountains, the rugged West Coast Trail, serene lakes, and one of the world’s tallest free-standing timber rail trestles.
The Cowichan Valley Regional District is now accepting applications from prospective candidates to join our organization in a temporary part-time Parks Construction Assistant position in the Parks & Trails Division within the Operations Department. The current term of this position is to December 31, 2027, at which point it may be extended or it will be converted to a casual position.
General Information
Reporting to the Manager - Parks Operations and supervised by the Parks Operations Coordinator, the Parks Construction Assistant assists in a broad range of semi-skilled duties in the construction, repair and upgrade of park structures and amenities.
Qualifications
- Secondary School graduation or an equivalent education, training and experience
- A minimum of one (1) year of related experience is required, preferably in a parks operations/construction environment
- WHMIS certification -- provided by the employer
- First Aid, Level 1 with CPR C
- Valid Class 5 BC Driver’s License
- Basic Chainsaw Operator Training

Hours of Work: Guaranteed 20 hours per week but could work up to 40 hours per week.
Salary: This position is unionized (USW Local 1-1937). The Step 1 wage rate is $30.68 per hour and the Step 2 wage rate is $32.52 per hour (2026 wage rates).
