Engineering Technologist (2 year term) – Sanitary Planning
SCOPE
Join one of Canada’s largest and most innovative sewer utilities as an Engineering Assistant in our Sanitary Planning Section. This two-year term, intermediate technical role offers experience in sewer planning, development review, system analysis, and asset management for one of the larger sewer collection systems in Canada. You’ll work with a collaborative team and receive mentorship from experienced engineers in a fast-growing City.
EMPLOYMENT STATUS

Responsibilities
- Review and provide technical input on engineering and land development design drawings, analysis, reports, permitting and specifications.
- Assist sewer data collection programs (e.g. flow monitoring, odour control), including field support and data management.
- Analyze flow monitoring and operational data to assess inflow and infiltration (I&I) assessments and system performance analysis using hydraulic models.
- Support I&I inspection and rehabilitation programs through field investigations and coordination with contractors, consultants, and public inquiries.
- Contribute to sewer planning for Neighbourhood Concept Plans by assisting with servicing assessments and identifying infrastructure upgrade needs.
- Provide technical support for asset management and renewal planning initiatives related to the City’s sanitary infrastructure.
- Collaborate with internal departments, external consultants, regional and neighbouring municipalities on various technical matters to support sewer planning projects and programs.
Qualifications
- Completion of a two-year diploma or longer in a discipline of Civil Engineering Technology relevant to the position from a recognized post-secondary institution.
- Registration or ability to register with the Association of Applied Science Technologists BC, or Engineers and Geoscientists BC.
- A demonstrated technical knowledge, skills and ability in the relevant areas of civil engineering.
- A valid and unrestricted drivers' license.
PREFERRED SKILLS AND ASSETS
- Experience with ArcGIS Pro, InfoWorks ICM, PowerBI, and Microsoft Office.
- Strong communication, problem-solving, and analytical skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in both office and field environments.
- Familiarity with utility planning, asset management, and linear infrastructure design.
- Customer service experience and comfort interacting with the public.
