Job Summary:
Métis Family Services is excited to launch a brand-new childcare centre at Bridgeview Community Centre in Surrey, BC, one that is deeply rooted in Métis and Indigenous culture, values, and community. With a large attached outdoor play area and adjacent park area, our programming will focus on outdoor play and exploration and weaving traditional Métis and Indigenous culture and values into these. As an Early Childhood Educator, you’ll support the development of children aged 0–5 through inclusive, culturally grounded programming. You’ll create engaging learning experiences, support children’s physical and emotional needs, and collaborate with families and specialists. You’ll support children’s development through play, connection, and community collaboration.
Reports To: Childcare Facility Manager (River & Willows)
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Adhere to and ensure compliance with licensing and regulatory requirements
- Plan and lead culturally responsive, developmentally appropriate activities
- Create individualized and group learning experiences based on children’s interests
- Attend to the children’s physical and emotional needs including diapering, toileting, eating, sleeping, comforting and co-regulation.
- Collaborate with specialists to support children with diverse needs
- Maintain records, support transitions to school, and ensure licensing compliance
- Foster strong relationships with families and community partners
- Ensure a safe, nurturing, and inclusive environment
- Collaborate with Elders and Knowledge Keepers
- Collaborate with pedagogist (when available0
- Support children’s daily routines and emotional regulation
- Communicate with families
- Support ECE Assistants as needed
Qualifications, Education and Experience:
- Early Childhood Education Certificate (required)
- Valid BC Early Childhood Educator licence (required)
- Current Childcare First Aid/CPR Level C
- FoodSafe certification (required)
- One year of recent experience as an Early Childhood Educator (required)
- Experience working with children 0-3 in a licensed childcare preferred
Job Skills and Abilities:
- Knowledge of BC Early Learning Framework, Métis Early Learning Framework, Indigenous Early Learning Framework
- Knowledge of BC Child Care Licensing Regulations and ability to plan and practice in accordance with them
- Understanding of Métis/First Nations cultures and urban Indigenous family needs
- Strong communication, leadership, and collaboration skills
- Ability to lift 50 lbs and manage physical demands of the role
- Knowledge of Michif or other Indigenous languages an asset
Additional Information:
This position requires the ability to function independently while managing the multiple needs of young children, working collaboratively with other adults, including effectively managing all situations including emergencies. Program delivery activities may require a moderate level of physical fitness to effectively carry out the duties of the position.

Wages: Step 1: $25.95 per hour plus Wage Enhancement $3-$6/hour (contingent on availability of funding)
