Examine patients' eyes, conduct tests and use specialized instruments to determine visual efficiencyPrescribe eyeglasses, contact lenses and other vision aids to correct patients' visionPrescribe treatment to conserve, improve and correct vision and other ocular disordersRefer patients to ophthalmologists or other physicians and surgeons when ocular or other diseases are found

Licensure by provincial or territorial authoritiesMembership in the Canadian Association of Optometrists (CAO)
