This position is responsible for providing technical service support and expertise for all traffic signal control devices, computerized central traffic control systems, closed circuit television and intelligent transportation systems through electrical/electronic design and diagnostics methods, including the manufacturing, construction, installation, operation and preservation of electrical and electronic plant facilities and associated auxiliary equipment.
Reporting to the Traffic Signals Supervisor, the incumbent will:
- Respond to regularly scheduled and emergency on-call repairs for all traffic signal control devices, advanced traffic management systems and Intelligent Transportation Systems to ensure efficient, safe and legal operation of all devices
- Inspect and implement safety requirements of the work zone prior to maneuvering and unloading work vehicles, equipment and/or materials
- Test and bench repair integrated electronic circuitry
- Install, modify, upgrade, troubleshoot, and maintain all field infrastructure aspects of centralized traffic computer systems to comply with regulatory and quality control requirements by analyzing and undertaking diagnostics and repair of damaged electrical and electronic equipment
- Plan and organize materials and equipment for daily assignments, including the preparation of related work orders, material requisitions and legal intersection maintenance logs
- Install, wire and construct traffic control devices which includes installing necessary traffic poles, traffic mast arms, signal and pedestrian heads, intersection wiring, emergency vehicle preemption and intrusive/non-intrusive detection systems, central system communications in accordance with approved engineering drawings
The successful applicant will possess:
- A three-year post-secondary diploma in Electrical/Electronic Engineering Technology or an Ontario Certificate of Qualification as a Licensed Electrician (309A)
- International Municipal Signal Association (IMSA) Traffic Signal Level 1 & 2 Certificates
- Several years of work-related experience
- Comprehensive knowledge and understanding of National Electrical Manufacturers Association Standards, Ontario Provincial Standard Specifications (Electrical), Ontario Traffic Control Manual Book 7 Temporary - Conditions, and the Occupational Health and Safety Act
- Experience working with Microsoft Office software (Word, Excel, Outlook), Vehicle Detection software (SSM Matrix, Interceptor), and Controller software (ASC/3 Utility, ASC/3 Configurator)
- Excellent verbal and written communication and organizational skills
- A valid Ontario Class DZ Driver's Licence
