ABOUT YOU:You will be responsible for developing, coordinating, and delivering accessible recreation programs and services that promote inclusion and equitable participation for individuals of all abilities. You will work collaboratively with community members, families, support networks, and external organizations to identify barriers and create meaningful access to recreation opportunities.
The role involves assessing individual needs, adapting programs and environments, and implementing inclusive practices where all participants feel valued, respected, and supported. You will be a key liaison between recreation services and community partners, fostering relationships that enhance access, build capacity, and support inclusive program design.
In addition, you will provide guidance and training to staff and volunteers on inclusive approaches, accessibility standards, and best practices. Through advocacy, collaboration, and program development, this role helps ensure that community recreation opportunities are welcoming, supportive, and accessible to all participants.
YOU HAVE:- Considerable knowledge of the recreational, social and cultural interests, requirements and resources for people with disabilities and access considerations.
- Considerable knowledge of organized community recreation principles and practices. Sound knowledge of methods, policies and procedures applicable to the work
- Sound knowledge of all aspects of recreation programming including children and youth, fitness and inclusion, among others.
- The ability to work with program budgets and operating schedules; supervise; and assist community groups.
- Direct experience working with people with disabilities and community in planning for services.
- A high level of interpersonal skills, flexibility and adaptability, and the ability to work independently with sound judgment.
- Proficiency with PerfectMind, Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Publisher.
QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS:College or University graduation with courses in leisure and recreation, or related subjects, supplemented by some related work experience in a supervisory capacity, or an equivalent combination of training and experience in a recreational environment where principles of community development and engagement drive the delivery of leisure and recreation services. A valid Class 5 BC driver’s license and access to a vehicle for NVRC business.
This is coverage for 3 months, ending September 4, 2026. This position involves shift work including days, evenings and weekends for an approximate 35-hour work week.
Employees will be available to work at any North Vancouver Recreation & Culture location. All candidates are required to submit a Police Information Check as a requirement of the position.
HOURLY RATES: The pay for this unionized temporary full-time position starts at $36.08 per hour and ranges to $42.45 per hour.
