Planner

THE POSITIONReporting to the Senior Planner and the Manager of Planning and Sustainability, the Planner supports the development and implementation of municipal planning bylaws, policies, and programs aligned with departmental and corporate priorities. The Planner reviews land use and development applications, prepares reports and recommendations, and provides professional planning advice to internal departments, applicants, Council, and the public. The position contributes to planning initiatives related to community planning, urban design, brownfield redevelopment, active transportation, and climate adaptation and mitigation, while supporting regulatory compliance and best practices in municipal planning. The successful candidate will have a solid understanding of relevant legislation, bylaws, and development processes, along with strong analytical, communication, and customer service skills.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Geographic Information Systems (GIS) is required.
THE QUALIFICATIONS- Undergraduate degree in Planning, Geography, Environment or a related discipline.
- At least two years’ related experience, preferably in a BC local government or similar setting.
- Strong understanding of statutory requirements and procedures applicable to land use planning and development.
- Knowledge of the principles, practices and objectives of community planning, urban design, brownfield redevelopment, active transportation, and climate adaptation and mitigation.
- Membership, or candidate status, in the Canadian Institute of Planners or similar professional accreditation.
