Mapping Technician 1
The City of Delta is looking for a full-time Mapping Technician to join our Information Services Department. In this technical role you will prepare and maintain the Municipal base, legal, and utility servicing maps, as well as record and compute related non-spatial data using computer-assisted techniques such as AutoCAD and GIS software (Munsys & ArcGIS Pro). You will work with a wide variety of source data and prepare and revise drawings and maps for a variety of departments and projects. In addition, you will work as a primary QA/QC reviewer of drawings and engineering infrastructure assets, ensuring spatial accuracy and data quality in accordance with the GIS team’s CAD/GIS standards and procedures.
To be successful in this role, your technical skills include:
- Knowledge of industry mapping standards, requirements and principles.
- Knowledge of computer-assisted mapping techniques including AutoCAD Map 3D, ESRI suite of products and Microsoft applications.
- Knowledge of coordinate geometry and survey computa-tions.
- Proficiency in using enterprise geodatabases and FME (Extract, Transform and Load) conversion software.
- Understanding of Municipal engineering design principles, data entry techniques and procedures.
In addition, you have strong communication skills, the ability to comprehend and adapt new techniques and can establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal staff, developers, consultants and general public.
The successful candidate will have at least 1 year of mapping technician work experience, and related municipal experience is considered an asset. The candidate will have certification in geographic information systems at an Institute of Technology. A valid Class 5 Driver’s License for the Province of British Columbia is required.
The City of Delta provides a competitive rate of $39.85 - $46.90 per hour and a comprehensive benefits package, including a Defined Benefit Pension Plan with Special Agreement option (Municipal Pension Plan).
