The City of Dawson Creek invites applications for three (3) Labourers – Public Works in the Operations department on a seasonal basis. Under the general supervision of the Public Works Manager, Public Works Supervisor, or designate, a Seasonal Labourer performs and assists with a variety of operational and road maintenance tasks such line painting, pothole repair, and pavement sealing. The successful candidate(s) will be tasked with physically demanding work which may take place in undesirable locations and must also be able to operate small machinery and power tools.
What You’ll Do:
- Assist in the maintenance and repair of roads, sidewalks, and other public infrastructure.
- Participate in seasonal tasks such as steaming drainage infrastructure, valve and hydrant checks, line painting, pavement repairs, and other related duties.
- Operate heavy equipment, such as loaders and backhoes, when required.
- Conduct pre-operational checks and routine maintenance on equipment to ensure safe and efficient operation.
- Follow project plans and instructions to complete tasks accurately and efficiently.
- Adheres to inspection procedures for signs of wear and malfunction, to ensure equipment within the scope of responsibility is serviceable, safe and in good repair and to assist mechanics in repair situations.
Requirements:
- Completion of Grade 12 (or a combination of equivalent and relevant experience).
- A valid Class 5 Driver’s License.
- The position involves prolonged periods of sitting, standing, and heavy manual labour. Candidates should be physically fit and able to perform manual labour associated with the role.
- Understands basic electrical and mechanical processes and recognizes problems related to the operation of the tools and equipment.
- Experience with routine maintenance operations.

The successful applicants must also demonstrate an ability to maintain harmonious relationships with all members of the public and other staff members.
