We are seeking a highly experienced Senior Payroll Specialist to manage payroll operations across multiple companies within a fast-paced construction environment. This role requires a strong background in union payroll, job costing, and high-volume processing, along with the ability to take full ownership of payroll functions from processing through to reconciliation and remittances.
This is a key role supporting both field and salaried teams, requiring accuracy, compliance, and the ability to manage complex payroll structures.
Key Responsibilities
- Process payroll for 400+ employees across multiple companies
- Manage weekly payroll for field employees and bi-weekly payroll for salaried staff
- Administer union and non-union payroll, including interpretation of collective agreements
- Perform job-based payroll processing, including accurate job costing allocation
- Prepare and process union remittances in accordance with collective agreements
- Prepare and submit government remittances (CRA, WCB, EHT, etc.)
- Reconcile payroll to the General Ledger (GL) and investigate/resolve discrepancies
- Track and maintain employee time off balances (vacation, sick time, statutory pay, etc.)
- Maintain payroll records, employee data, and system updates
- Process payroll adjustments, ROEs, and year-end reporting (T4s, etc.)
- Ensure full compliance with BC payroll legislation and regulatory requirements
- Generate reports and support internal/external audits
- Collaborate with HR, accounting, and operations teams
Qualifications
- 5+ years of payroll experience, preferably in construction or job-costing environments
- Proven experience processing high-volume payroll (300+ employees)
- Strong knowledge of union payroll and collective agreements
- Experience with payroll reconciliations, GL integration, and remittances
- Solid understanding of BC adn Alaberta payroll legislation and compliance requirements
- High attention to detail and ability to manage multiple deadlines and entities
