Position Summary:
As our Foodbank Navigator, you will be the welcoming face of Neighbor to Neighbor (N2N) Centres central Food Access program. Working within a collaborative team, you will manage the flow of shoppers in both the indoor and outdoor waiting areas, ensuring a respectful, inclusive, and non-judgmental experience for all families and individuals seeking support.

In this role, you are responsible for maintaining the highest standards of professional conduct, ensuring all interactions reflect the Centres commitment to the Hamilton community while avoiding any conflicts of interest.
Principal Responsibilities
- Maintain confidentiality
- Work outside at the food bank entrance and inside in the reception area to welcome shoppers
- Maintain close communication with the staff to help manage flow of shoppers and participants to the utilities or financial counseling programs as well.
- Aid food bank shoppers with way-finding through the line-up, intake, reception, and shopping processes:
- inquire with arriving shoppers whether they have an appointment,
- invite shoppers who are early or late to check in
- invite shoppers that do not have an appointment, and those who missed their appointment, to consider booking one for another day by calling reception when they get home (provide them the food bank business card
- Help participants of the utilities or financial counselling programs with way-finding through the line-up, intake, and reception processes, and as necessary, refer participants to the Middle East Outreach Worker, Utilities Support Worker, and the Manager of Family Services.
- Use de-escalation skills when conflict arises between client(s).
- Direct donors and others appropriately (front doors to Administration or delivery door to warehouse).
- Help in the set up and clean up of the food bank each day.
- Answer phones and provide correct information for service users.
Requirements, Abilities, Knowledge, Skills:
- Previous work or volunteer experience in community, social, or emergency food services.
- Maintain professional and calm demeanor when working with all community member and staff, even in high stress moments.
- Familiarity with Neighbour to Neighbour (N2N) programs, specifically Emergency Food and Family Services.
- Ability to learn and use Link2Feed (specialized intake software) and manage digital appointment schedules.
- Proven experience or formal training in de-escalation techniques; ability to remain calm and professional while resolving sensitive situations or conflicts.
- Stay updated on supervisors emails and directives to ensure awareness of priorities, changes, etc.
- Inform supervisor about absences with as much notice as possible to ensure coverage.
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced, high-volume setting.
- Demonstrate efficiency, but also kindness, an accommodating spirit, and patience.
- Commitment to strict confidentiality and a strong culture of workplace health and safety.
- Ability to work collaboratively and effectively in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to speak Arabic is an asset.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
