Simpcw Resources LLP is growing rapidly and looking for a dependable and enthusiastic Property Maintenance Worker to join our team. Reporting to the Site Manager, the Johnson Lake Resort Property Maintenance Worker provides general maintenance, ground clean up and essential physically labour support at Johnson Lake Resort on a casual, as-needed basis throughout the operating season. This role covers a broad range of tasks including groundskeeping, light building repairs, equipment handling, dock and waterfront maintenance, firewood management, and general labour as directed by the Site Manager. The ideal candidate is a reliable, capable, and safety-conscious individual who can work independently on assigned tasks with minimal supervision, exercise good judgment about what requires escalation, and handle physical work in a remote outdoor environment. While this is an on-call position, availability and responsiveness are critical to the resort's operations as the guest experience depends on timely completion of maintenance tasks.
Responsibilities:
- Perform regular grounds maintenance including mowing, trimming, brush clearing, and maintaining safe, clean pathways and common outdoor areas.
- Remove debris and hazards from the property and assist with seasonal landscaping and property opening and closing tasks.
- Maintain firewood supplies by splitting, stacking, and restocking wood for guest use.
- Complete minor building and facility repairs such as fixing doors, windows, screens, deck boards, and other basic carpentry tasks.
- Assist with painting, staining, weatherproofing, and general upkeep of cabins, fences, signage, and outbuildings.
- Inspect and perform minor maintenance on the dock and waterfront areas to ensure they remain safe and well maintained.
- Operate and maintain resort equipment such as ATVs, utility vehicles, mowers, and hand tools in a safe and responsible manner.
- Assist with operational tasks including generator checks, water line inspections, moving supplies, and equipment setup.
- Manage garbage and recycling removal while maintaining clean, organized, and bear-safe waste storage areas.
- Follow safety protocols, report hazards or maintenance issues, and provide general support to the Site Manager and housekeeping team as needed.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent required; additional education or training in hospitality management or related field preferred.
- Demonstrated experience in general labour, groundskeeping, property maintenance, or a related trade.
- Ability to safely perform physical labour including lifting heavy objects (up to 50 lbs), digging, climbing ladders, and working in varied weather conditions.
- Comfort working outdoors for extended periods in a remote environment.
- Reliable, punctual, and responsive to scheduling requests including occasional short-notice availability.
- Valid BC driver's licence.
- Ability to work independently and complete assigned tasks without direct supervision.
- Understanding of safe work practices and use of personal protective equipment.
- Experience in resort, campground, or rural property maintenance, preferred.
- Carpentry, plumbing, or electrical skills (non-licensed handyman level), preferred.
- Small engine maintenance experience (chainsaws, generators, mowers, outboard motors), preferred.
- Standard First Aid certification, preferred.
Working Conditions:
- Work is performed predominantly outdoors in a remote wilderness environment.
- The role is physically demanding and involves lifting, carrying, climbing, digging, and working in sun, rain, and variable temperatures.
- This is a casual, on-call position. Hours are not guaranteed but are expected to increase during peak season (May through September).
- Some tasks may require early morning or weekend availability to meet operational timelines.
