On November 29, 2024, SPS became the police of jurisdiction, and assumed responsibility and command for policing and law enforcement in Surrey. POSITION OVERVIEW
Surrey Police Service (SPS) has an exciting opportunity for an Inventory and Maintenance Worker to join our Facilities Management Unit, within the Corporate Services Bureau. This position is responsible for shipping and receiving duties and manual work involving routine repair and modification of furniture and equipment, and a variety of minor preventative building maintenance tasks.
Schedule / Hours of Work
This is an on-site position and to be eligible for this auxiliary position, incumbents must have flexible availability and be able to commit to a minimum of two (2) shifts per month. Shifts may include weekdays, evenings, weekends and holidays. Assigned shifts may be prescheduled or by call-in. While hours are not guaranteed, incumbents may be scheduled up to 35 hours per week based on operational needs and assignment availability. Please note, hours are subject to change in accordance with operational requirements and adherence to the Collective Agreement.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Performs shipping, storing, receiving, and inventory management functions according to SPS practices including recording issues and returns.
- Tracks supply stock level and initiates order requests.
- Delivers products and supplies to various sections within SPS.
- Uses computer systems to track and report on inventory and consumption levels.
- Responds to various facility and building related service requests.
- Completes minor facility repairs.
- Assembles, modifies, and moves office furniture.
- Updates and maintains inventory of miscellaneous spare furniture parts.
- Assists manager with sourcing and procurement of equipment and parts.
- Gathers and inputs information from a variety of sources ensuring accuracy of data.
- Prepares information related to inventory tracking.
- Establishes and maintains databases, spreadsheets, project records, and related tracking systems.
- Creates and updates building layout drawings as required.
- Escorts non-security cleared tradespeople, contractors, and visitors in SPS secure buildings.
- Assists others in performing their duties.
- Performs related duties as required.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- Knowledge of material inventory controls, procedures, and practices.
- Knowledge of practices and procedures used in clerical support environment.
- Knowledge of relevant computer office applications.
- Knowledge of modular furniture components.
- Knowledge of applicable safety regulations and procedures.
- Knowledge of SPS policies, procedures, and standards.
- Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
- Ability to understand and effectively carry out oral and written instruction.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with the public and staff.
- Ability to exercise good judgement in performing the duties of the position.
- Ability to maintain moderately complex records, prepare reports, and make arithmetical calculations.
- Ability to effectively problem solve.
- Ability to use organizational skills.
- Ability to follow routine procedures under minimal supervision.
- Ability to move, modify, and assemble office furniture.
- Ability to use wide variety of related tools and equipment.
- Ability to train junior staff.
- Ability to file and manage manual and electronic records.
- Ability to maintain physical strength, stamina, and coordination to perform the duties of the position.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Completion of Grade 12, supplemented by courses in building trades and computer office applications.
- Two years of related experience in building maintenance. An acceptable equivalent combination of training and experience may be considered
- Valid BC Class 5 Driver’s License with a safe driving history
- All applicants must obtain and maintain the required police security clearance throughout their employment with SPS, which includes a mandatory polygraph examination.

- The salary range is $30.71/hour - $32.90/hour (pay grade 13) based on 2024 rates.
