
Senior Financial Services Specialist
Permanent Full-Time
The District of Squamish is seeking a Senior Financial Services Specialist to lead and manage the Financial Services Specialist team. This role plays a key part in administration of financial services, overseeing all functions from grant management to permissive tax exemptions and tangible capital assets accounting. As a Senior Financial Services Specialist, you will oversee month end, quarter end, and year-end processes, and assist with the preparation of operating and capital budgets. This is an excellent opportunity for a strong communicator with thorough knowledge in Public Sector Accounting Standards and internal controls.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provides strategic and operational direction, advice, and information on financial services.
- Provides financial training, best practices process development, and financial process guidance to departments.
- Prepares reports to Council and delivers Council presentations.
- Prepares the annual financial statements and other statutory financial reporting, including assisting with all aspects of year-end and audit preparation.
- Provides coverage for the Director of Financial Operations.
What we’re looking for:
- Chartered Professional Accounting (CPA) Designation.
- Undergraduate Degree in Commerce or related field.
- Minimum of five (5) years of progressive experience working in accounting in a unionized environment.
- Minimum of five (5) years of supervisory experience.
- Strong leadership skills and ability to exercise sound judgement, ensure accuracy, and maintain confidentiality.
- Ability to interpret, explain, report on and provide advice on accounting, budgetary, and financial management issues including rules and regulations.
